The next day was the first marching band rehearsal of the season. All day long before rehearsal, I practiced my music, and played it perfectly. Jamie went over his stuff and we played together. I loved playing music with him. We just worked so well together.
When it was finally time to go to practice, we both dressed in more casual clothes. I wore a light hoodie and a pair of athletic leggings with my tennis shoes while he just wore a pair of jeans and a t-shirt. Jamie wore his wedding ring, too. It made me really happy to see. We both gathered our teaching materials and instruments and hopped in the car.
We were there for a staff meeting an hour before the actual rehearsal started. We walked into the band room and Mr. Taylor and Mr. Cage were standing over Mr. Taylor's laptop, looking at music. When we walked in, they both turned and greeted us. "Hey guys," Mr. Taylor said.
"Hello," I smiled.
"What's up?" Jamie said.
"How was your day?" Mr. Cage asked us.
Jamie smiled and answered, "Pretty good. Just finished up all the little things for rehearsal."
Mr. Taylor asked, "How are you feeling?"
"I feel pretty good actually," I answered.
"Good," he nodded.
Pretty soon, other staff members came in and we all took our seats and the meeting started. Mr. Taylor got in front of everyone and said, "First day of band, whoo!" Everyone smiled and cheered. "I want to thank you all for coming and committing to this band season. I want to introduce officially the newest member of our staff, Calista Welles." He gestured to me and everyone clapped. "Calista is no longer a student here, so she has accepted a position as flute instructor for the band season. She has been in this marching band longer than anyone else purely because of her raw talent. I trust she will do amazing as our flute instructor." Various people congratulated and welcomed me to the team.
Mr. Taylor continued, "Returning our staff for this season is , Jamie Morgan. Jamie is going to be in charge of the saxes, as usual, and possibly clarinets here and there."
Mr. Taylor went over the rest of the returning staff and then went over the game plan for this night's rehearsal. We were going to be outside helping new members learn to march and then we would go inside into sectionals, then finishing off the night in full ensemble. Once Mr. Taylor was done, he said, "Ready break."
We all got up and headed outside to the practice parking lot and greeted the students who were already getting ready for the rehearsal. Jamie was surrounded by a group of students. He was definitely the favorite member of staff in this marching band. It was cute to see so many people adore him.
Scarlett ran up to me and said, "I can't believe you're part of the staff now!"
"I know right. It's crazy," I smiled.
"I know it might be hard, but you don't have to play favorites with me," she smirked.
I laughed and said, "I'll do my best." I glanced down at my ring and took a deep breath. "There's something I need to tell you."
"What is it?" She asked, concerned.
"We got married like a month ago," I smiled, nervously.
"Why didn't you tell me?" She asked, shocked.
"I wanted it to be a secret," I smirked.
"I love that," she smiled.
Lacey ran over to us and said in a gossipy tone, "Guys, Jamie got married. He's wearing a ring!"
