Hi.
I don't think I've properly introduced myself.
My name is Zee.
If my parents read this, they'd be mad at me (again) because they didn't name me Zee at birth. But after years of looking for myself and finding pieces thereof, I know that Zee is who I am.
So, my name is Zee.
I'm currently 20 years old. Almost 21.A student. A sister. A mess.
I've spent half of my life trying to be approved of, and the other half learning how to approve of myself.
I don't know exactly where I fit. Some days I'm really alternative and “emo” and that takes up the biggest part of my personality. I've never not been “weird.”
At 18 I was diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder, which I've had all my life. I spent some time in the psychiatric ward. I spend a lot of my time trying to get mental health awareness across to others.
I also love making a change.
I've been to conferences and have had input in several youth declarations by Youth@SAIIA.
I frequently advocate for all climate change issues. My area of interest is mostly youth inclusion in policy making. I am also a part of a Youth Policy Committee.
I started this journey properly when I was in 11th Grade and I've been at it since.
I strongly believe that we all can make a viable change in this world when we come together and work for it.
I'm currently a student.
My academics aren't something I discuss.
At my institution, what matters to me is my engagement with students.
I currently hold 3 positions:
1. Marketing, Media and Secretary of Vegilicious. A plant based society.
2. Social Media Manager of DASO at my institution.
3. Vice Chair and Acting Chairperson for the Poetry Society.
I love what I do.
Last year I had been a student mentor and I held a position on a Disciplinary Committee at a residence.
I currently tutor high school students as well.
Anytime I do what I love, I consider it an achievement.
I'm the eldest of 3 siblings.
An 18 year old brother, a 15 year old sister and an 11 year old sister. We get along decently. I love them but I never say it to them.
20 Random Things About Me.
1. I share a birthday with the late Nelson Mandela.
2. I frequently eat with a knife and fork.
3. I write a bit of poetry.
4. Times New Roman is my favorite font.
5. I'm Pansexual.
6. I drift between voices.
7. I like aesthetics and setup decorating and design.
8. I hate wet bathroom floors.
9. I have a septum piercing.
10. I never want to learn how to drive.
11. I like mint ice cream. Vanilla is my first favorite, though.
12. In high school, I was an editor in the newly started school magazine.
13. I laugh. A lot.
14. I love making playlists.
15. I can't swim but I love being in water.
16. I have a bad habit of starting projects and leaving them in the middle.
17. I don't drink water just like that.
18. I have a gap between my front teeth.
19. I like being there for people.
20. My favorite color is black.
There is nothing that makes my story stand out from anyone else's.
I'm just a growing woman and I love looking back on who I've been and knowing that I've made some progress.
There is of course much more to be said. But for now, this is me.
