5:Jeffrey:Guardian

As I watched Zach, I couldn’t help but feel bad for not following him, even if he wanted to be alone. But even if I want after him, my thrusters would blow away the side of the bus, so I couldn’t do anything. Instead of lingering on the problem, I put earbuds into my ears, and gazed out the window, thinking of things most people would think are crazy, but I see as normal.

  =====================================

By the time lunch rolled around, Zach was still missing, and I was still worried. When asked where Zach was, I simply said he wasn’t here. My worry was getting to me, and Melinda could tell.

“Jeffrey, what’s wrong?” She asked me, tilting her head slightly. I simply shrugged, and kept poking at my sushi.

“...Nothing, I just… I haven’t seen Zach all day.” I said quietly, avoiding Melinda’s eyes.

Melinda sighed, and snuggled up against me. “You worry about him way too much, Jeffrey. He’s his own person, okay? Try to focus on you right now… we ARE on a date right now.” She kissed my cheek, which sent a reviving sensation through my body. I then got an idea.
I remembered Zach’s words when we first established rules for our powers.

I threw the first rule out the window.

“Melinda, can I show you something?” I asked her. Before she could respond, I dragged her behind a building, and began to show her my powers, when I heard sirens. It was the police… Someone must have seen me!

I weigh my options.

I could try and cover it up, hide Melinda and I behind trash cans, and hope that the police won’t find us? Or do I fight back, maybe even slam some heads into stone? Either way, if I hide, I risk them finding us. If I attack, I risk getting taken in…

Finally, I decide to grab Melinda’s wrist, and hid behind a large trash can. I heard dogs barking, men talking, officers interrogating, when finally, thirty minutes later, the police left the area. Melinda sighed, and held herself close to me. “Thank god… I thought we were gonna get caught…”
I looked down at her. “We?”
She smiled, and I watched as paper radiated around her arm.

Melinda is a conduit.. Fascinating. We held hands…

And everything suddenly went black.

6: Zach: Thug

    Two hours earlier...

I approached the burning building as a cloud of ash, waiting until I was a few blocks away to find a dark alley to transform in, I then made my way towards the building, jogging as I went, careful not to be detected by the patrolling D.U.P. I eventually came to a squadron of firefighters, they were hosing down the building from their truck, wouldn’t a bio-terrorist with water powers be an amazing asset in this profession?

I approached the man who seemed to be in charge he was ordering the others, pointing to where they should direct the water, it was doing little to stop the fire, most of it turning to steam before it could do anything, I felt it. The fire, the smoke, all of it. It was as if my power was suddenly going to surge out of me from this much flame. It was overwhelming.

I snapped out of my gaze and turned to the captain.

“Is there anything I can do to help?” I shouted at him over the fire. He turned to me, he looked like he had a scar running down the side of his face, a thick beard was covering most of his features. There were already streaks of gray in it.
