Emily
It was a large ball room, the floor was made up of marble and there were light balls on the ceiling. There were lots of people socializing looking around the room and one another.
I suddenly felt like I didn't belong here, everything about this place, these people, this event, everything is so extravagant.
There was live music with musician playing in the corner, a small stage, servers serving drinks. There's even a champagne fountain in the room.
A server approached us and asked if we wanted champagne and we both denied it.
He held me close to him and we walked in front, almost close to the stage. I see a middle aged tall man with dark hair and grey eyes, almost the replica of Everett wearing a tuxedo as well, with a short blond woman in red beside him.
Everett and I put our gifts on the table before approaching the couple. The man's eyes was cold and very calculated.
"Happy Birthday, Dad." Everett said to him.
"Thanks, son." The man said, but his eyes was on me. "Who's this young lady?" He raised one of his eyebrow at me.
"Hello sir, my name is Emily." I said politely.
"Is this one of your fling?" His dad didn't hesitate to ask and I suddenly felt awkward.
"She's my girlfriend, dad." Everett said sounding annoy. "Can you not be rude to my guest and especially my girlfriend?"
I tighten my hand on his arm to stop him from saying anything else to his dad.
"You're Emily Wilson, ain't you?" His dad said with a clipped tone. "I won't lie, I did a background check on you- I have to for my son's safety just to make sure he's not with a gold digger." The woman beside him smirked.
I was humiliated now.
"Did you do a background check on your own girlfriend? She's the gold digger here, why would a young woman be with an old man like you?" Everett spat in disgust and the woman gasped.
"Everett." I whispered. "Stop."
His Dad's lip turned into a smirk.
"I hope you have fun tonight." His Dad said looking at me and then Everett.
"You too, sir and Happy birthday." I said.
"I'm sorry." Everett said to me while we were walking away from his dad.
"It's fine." I said. "Not your fault."
"I didn't know he would be so rude." He said.
"It's fine." I said giving him a tight smile.
A woman around our age approached us. She was wearing a dark slit red dress. She was tall and beautiful. Her blond hair was curled and left down. She hugged Everett.
"Hey." Everett said sounding awkward after that hug. "Didn't know you were coming."
The woman ignored his question and looked at me.
"Who's this girl?" She asked.
"She's Emily, my girlfriend." He said and I give her a polite smile.
She shrugged. "Your dad asked me to go on a date with you, when you're free?"
I was perplexed by how these people talk.
My hand on his arm loosened, and it fell on my side.
"I have a beautiful girlfriend with whom I'm happy with." Everett said though gritted teeth.
"I was your girlfriend once, we didn't work out and plus, your dad wanted to merge with my family's for business."
