If I told you that it was love at first sight, I'd be lying due to the fact that I had no idea that Julien Henri merely existed until the summer before my sophomore year.

It was July, and the air was as hot and sticky as hell. You could hear the cicadas screaming from the boiling heat, in a symphony of the sauna. The sun was beating down like a spotlight, focusing on our town as if it was the star of the show, a story waiting to happen in the midst of an adventure.

I lounged by the pool with my worn copy of "Romeo & Juliet", its yellowed pages illuminated by the bright sun.

Just as I was about to dive into the world of the two star-crossed lovers, I was interrupted by the unfortunately familiar voice,"Sofia darling, what are you up to?" Jacqueline, my father's fiancé who could qualify to be my older sister, called for me as she strutted out in an all too revealing bikini.

I dogeared my page and looked up from my book,"Just reading," I answered.

She stood with her hands on her hips and snapped her gum while looking at me disapprovingly," Sofia, what are you wearing?" She asked as she looked at my simple one piece light blue bathing suit from head to toe.

"A bathing suit," I stated the obvious and looked down at my attire, desperately wanting to crawl into my book and not be there.

She clicked her tongue and shook her best sized head,"Sweetie if you ever want or need to borrow anything of mine, feel free okay?" She commented. I knew she meant well, but I had no reason to show off anything so I was perfectly fine with my clothing choices. She removed her shoes and waded into the pool,"Sofia the waters just divine! Why don't you put that ratty old thing down and jump in?" She quipped and beckoned me to do something other than reading.

I shook my head and slid on my sunglasses, classic aviators,"No thanks," I responded, yet still snuck a longing glance at the cerulean blue water.

I could not swim, and no matter how many Olympic swim coaches my dad would hire, there was no way I ever could or would.

Jacqueline sighed and whistles a sing-song tune,"You know, if you ever want to have any friends over or something you're totally welcome to..."

She always did this, the pity just made me a bit sick to the stomach- but I had to silence all thoughts because my dad is "in love" with her.

"Thanks," I said and walked away into the house.

I needed to take a break for a while, a momental vacation; and with that I turned to my mint green banana boat bike...
