AU where Paw Patrol doesn't exist and Ryder only had one pup, which is Marshall. A drabble.

I didn't know sadness until I lost a friend. 

We have been together since we were children. But one day, he and his family had to migrate somewhere else. 

I tried to keep in touch with him, but because of our time differences, it's hard to keep up. Eventually, we talked less until we stopped talking altogether. 

Then one day, my parents and I were walking through a pet shop. And I saw him, a runty dalmatian hunched up in a cage. 

His name is Marshall, and he was my second chance in happiness. 

We brought him home and took care of him, and those were the happiest moments of my life. 

But now as I walk out of the vet, I realized something. 

I never knew what sadness was until I lost a friend. 

But I never knew pain until I lost my best friend.
