IT WAS A WEDNESDAY MORNING, 10:00AM to be exact. The entire town had shown up for the event, no one in their right mind would miss the funeral of James Arthur Hawthorne. Families all of kinds showed up dressed head to toe in black, the women in respectable dresses and hats and heels, and the men in their best suits, polished shoes and gelled back hair. To say that it was a formal affair would be an understatement.

The team in charge of organising the old man's funeral had gone all out—under strict instructions from his daughter, Anna Hawthorne. There were lilies everywhere even though they weren't even in season, white chairs with soft black pillows on them had been placed ten in a row, with about 40 rows in total. 400 people at a funeral? Well, of course. This was the funeral of James Hawthorne, the town's most respected doctor turned lawyer.

His name was always in the papers for both good and bad reasons. The good was usually work he had done for the town, the bad—most likely something to do with his children or grandchildren. The latter hadn't been mentioned in years. Four to be exact. The last word on the third generation of Hawthorne offspring was when the news had broken out about the three siblings fleeing from the town. No one has heard of or seen them since.

Everyone was finding their seats and settling in, a ten piece orchestra playing their instruments at a modest volume in the background when the four boys showed up. They were rarely seen without each other. They lived together, ate together, partied together and some say even shared a girl once.

Ashton Irwin, Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings and Michael Clifford.

Ashton was from a prominent family, very close to the Hawthornes. They spent summers in Paris together, winters in Italy. It was the talk of the town when Ashton had asked Isabella Hawthorne to be his girlfriend. They were 15 and in love. It was very innocent at first, but as everyone in Josephine Hills knows—Isabella Hawthorne is anything but innocent. Some say she tainted Ashton, ruined his good boy image. Others say she helped him grow the pair of balls he was lacking. He was heartbroken when she left without even a goodbye. He moved on eventually, wondering around town with a girl strangely similar looking to his lost love. Everyone could see he wasn't as happy as he was when the Hawthorne girl was around, but they remained quiet about the subject.

Calum's family wasn't as wealthy as Ashton's, but they were still on the guest list every time a fancy party was thrown. Most have the opinion that is was because the youngest Hawthorne was best friends with the youngest Hood, those two were attached at the hip. It was no secret that Calum longed for his best friend's girl, almost as heartbroken as Ashton was when she up and left. And even more so when his sister ran away a few weeks later. Calum chooses not to talk about it, 4 years later and he is still without any answers as to why he sister would leave without an explanation.
