Chapter 18

His brows stayed furrowed as he surveyed my whole face. "Wala akong alam sa sinasabi mo." He quickly turned away, shook his head while he's about to walk away when I run into him and block his way.
I just asked if something else bad happened aside from the fire. I knew that's the reason why he stopped sending pictures of my brother to my mother. But if he'll just admit what I'm talking about, everything will go well.
Despite of his expression now, inilabas ko pa din mula sa bulsa ko ang dalawang litrato. I raised it up and his eyes immediately darted on it.
The more I stared at his features, the more my doubts burgeoning all over my body. I don't know why. It started to creep me out. Like the first time I saw my brother, he has a long hair and dark skin tone. His beard was only a sign that he's getting older, and he's nearly obese.
But... something's off.
I saw how his lips slightly parted but he quickly recovered from it.
"This picture you've sent to my mom," Nanatiling nakataas ang isang litrato at ibinaba ko muna pansamantala ang isa, "... and this one that my brother kept for a long time," I raised the other but before I continue, I scanned his face. His face hardened as his eyes keep on glancing to the pictures. "Why is it so different? They were both 4 years old here, yet they didn't even looks th—"
"Alam ba 'to ng nanay mo?" His gaze finally shifted on me.
His brows turned up and a playful smile plastered on his face.
I felt sorry to him because he thinks that I was going to give up once he showed me that kind of expression but little he did know, yes, I was just a 17-year old, but nothing could stop me. Once I was intrigued to certain thing, I likely to dig out more into it until I'd satisfy my curiosity.
Straightened my posture, I looked straight to his eyes. I pointed the side view pic while my brother was holding a toy. "This is the last picture you've sent to my mom. Hindi na nasundan pa, 'di ba po?"Bumalik sa pag-seryoso ang mukha nito. "It's because of the fire. But the only thing that I was asking if something else had happened after that." I put down the pictures. "Yet, you couldn't give me an honest response,"
"Bakit hindi mo ipa-DNA test anak ko para malaman mo ang sagot sa tanong mo?" he snapped back.
Hindi agad ako nakasagot. I looked away. Suddenly, I realized that I was just a young girl, firm standing in front of an adult just because I got a big problem with my brother's real identity. But this man considered it as a childish thingy.
He just hit it. The thing I know I couldn't do because I'm still on underage. I know I'll need a guardian for that, but how can I possibly do that if I keep everything this in secret?
He rubbed his head and crinkled his nose. "Hindi ito ang inaasahan kong mangyayari sa una nating pagkikita, iha." He formed a small smile. "Hinuha kong walang alam ang magulang mo lalo na ang kuya mo sa ginagawa mo ngayon. Pambihira," he release a soft laugh. "Ang taas pa naman ng tingin ko sa'yo. Pero dahil sa walang kwentang litrato na iyan, pinagdududahan mo ang kapa—"
