"So your looking for your siblings after they disappeared, that's so cool I'm on a quest! He exclaimed excitedly and I could only imagine that Ríonach's reaction would be very similar to the boys if they had traded places.
"It's not cool it's sad and marcy needs to get to Diarmuid rather quickly if she wants to save her siblings" kaltain replied startling me as he hadn't said anything this whole day except for a shy hello when we were at Dorian's farm.
"I'm sorry this is just kinda cool,I thought quests could only happen in children's tales" he said through a sad smile
"It's ok" I say kaltians always this way I say with a teasing smile
The truth is I've grown quite fond of the men surrounding me, in the 6 hours I've known them for, they're all kind, even fletcher with his hot temper, and I think they will probably take on Conner as their next travel buddy, it's east to tell that they've all grown a soft spot for the young boy, not that they would ever admit it.
" when we get to the top of this ridge we will set up camp for tonight, it's getting dark and we won't want to be out in the open hillside when the lives come out" aiden calls down to us from further up the slope. That's when my instincts tell me something is wrong, " I don't think we should get to the top of the ridge I have a bad feeling about this" I call up to aiden
"Ahh the lass is afraid of a few ghosts is she now" Darraghs soft voice said in a teasing manner
" you should respect the ghosts" now let me tell you that was not something I thought I would ever hear a young British boy say, "just as most of them respect us, and I agree with Marcy there is something not right about that crest tonight" Conner managed to stutter out proving he was really, truly frightened about something up there,
"Alright fine we will set up camp here Marcy, Darragh, and fletcher go find some firewood," Aiden barked out " Kaltain, Conner and I will stay here and set up camp. We all mumbled our agreement to his orders and went on our ways. Darragh, fletcher and I climbed up the ridge to look for wood, " I wonder what that thing about ghosts Conner was going on about was, I mean surely the tales can't be real" Darragh said out loud his voice carrying through the forest like the summer breeze, I laughed " says the men who literally take people to a person from legend"
"That's different we know he's real we've seen him, hugged him for gods sake I mean he's a friend of our" fletcher mumbled cheekily
" so how do you know ghosts aren't real maybe your just to scary for them to show themselves" I giggled out, " I mean I used to see will o' wisps when I was younger, I would follow them into the forests and they take me on great adventures!" I say, " your starting to sound like Dorian" Darragh says, " he has lots of great stories of the faye he would meet in the great glen from his time in Scotland, I mean I'm Scottish and even I don't believe half the things Dorian says" fletcher sings out, with that out banter slowly ended as we became more intent on finding wood for the fire. We ended up each carrying an arm-full of wood down the hillside and lifting the fire, Kaltain had caught two hare and we roared it over the fire for supper, it was delicious. As the fire died down we all headed off to bed and slept a sound sleep that is until we heard the gunshots.
