-y/n's pov- it had been a couple of days since daniel had asked out tessa. she come home and told me all about how well the date went with daniel and about how sweet he was. apparently he asked her out and she was so smiley when she said it. i was really excited for two of my closest friends to finally be dating. as for me, i have had a few more moments where i found myself looking at zach in a different way than normally. it's weird but i haven't thought too much about it.
today we were all just doing our own things, i decided i wanted to go on a hike through the woods. the resort has these trails you can take and i wanted to try one. i layered up and was heading out of the house when zach stopped me "what are you up to?" he asked me "just going for a hike on one of the nature trails" i replied "i heard there was supposed to be a lot of snow today, maybe you shouldn't go just incase" he said, and i got a little frustrated with him.
"zach i think i'll be fine, the resort staff hasn't even told us to stay indoors so i'm sure i'll be okay" i reassured him. "but you shouldn't be out in the snow all alone, what if something happens" he said sounding worried. "zach i'm a big girl, i can take a hike myself and be fine" i said annoyed. "i'm going on this hike and you can't stop me!" i snarked "well fine, give me five minutes... i'm coming with you" he said giving up. "okay but hurry up" i replied and he ran inside to get dressed.
we started walking and talking for about an hour, and then the snow started to pick up. "can you see the trail signs anymore?" i asked zach "i thought you could, i've been following your lead" he replied. "well maybe if we just keep straight we'll see one" i said and he agreed.
we kept walking for what felt like forever and never seen another sign. the snow was coming down harder than ever now, and i couldn't see 2 feet in front of me. i started to freak out a bit "zach... i think we're lost" i said, and you could hear the worry and regret in my voice.
"we'll be alright, just follow me. if we stop walking we'll freeze to death, keep moving!" he said and then took the lead. i couldn't feel any part of my body from the icy wind blowing around us. we were in the middle of a blizzard and it was all my fault. as i was stuck in thought, i hadn't noticed i couldn't see zach anymore. i looked up and couldn't see him anywhere "zach? zach where are you?" i screamed but couldn't hear anything from the wind whistling in my ear.
i had lost zach. my whole body was frozen. i was exhausted from fighting through the snow. i was going to die out here, but i remembered what zach said "keep moving" so i did. i kept walking until i felt the ground fall from underneath me, and everything went black.
