Hagrid had carried Draco all the way up to the hospital wing. By the time he got there Draco felt very faint. Black spots were starting to cloud his vision. He had lost a lot of blood.
Madam Pomfrey immediately went to work on Draco's gash to make the bleeding cease. Draco moaned and winced in pain. While she was working Pansy Parkinson rushed into the hospital wing, with her face drained, and ran to the bedside of Draco.
"Oh Draco! Are you all right! That nasty beast should be killed for what he's done to you! You poor thing! I was so worried, I ran here as fast as I could!" Pansy said in a rush.
"Calm down, you're going to set off his nerves, it's better if he's calm." Madam Pomfrey snapped.
"Sorry," Pansy squeaked.
Pansy turned to Draco and grabbed his hand, the one not injured, and squeezed it.
"'E's goin' ter be oka', r-righ'?" Hagrid asked, fiddling nervously with a handkerchief in his ginormous hands.
"He'll be alright as long as I can be allowed to work on him in peace," Madam Pomfrey answered.
After preparing everything she needed to mend Draco, Madam Pomfrey sent Hagrid and Pansy away so she could work on Draco telling Pansy she could come back another time.
"I'll visit as soon as I can, Draco," Pansy stood and left. Draco watched her walk out leaving him alone with Madam Pomfrey. It was still early in the school year, so there still wasn't anyone in the hospital wing. Draco signed, he didn't really want to be alone.
"Don't you worry, your girlfriend will be able to come back later," Madam Pomfrey said cleaning Draco's wound.
Draco's face shot up in surprise. "Oh she's not my girlfriend," he said.
"Well she certainly likes you then," Madam Pomfrey said, now mending the wound.
Draco hadn't really thought about it that much. But now as he was thinking about it Pansy did stare at him a lot and always was around him. In fact, a lot of girls stared at Draco. He wasn't that bad looking. He had some really good features and he was getting taller and more defined. Draco smirked to himself. Of course a lot of girls liked him, he was great. And he didn't mind getting attention from a ton of girls either, he rather liked it. And with his arm he was bound to get more attention. He was excited to learn what use he could get with his arm being in the shape it was.
After mending Draco's wound, Madam Pomfrey gave him a potion. It tasted horrible and left a bitter taste in Draco's mouth for a good ten minutes.
"I'm going to have you stay the night, but you should be good tomorrow," Madam Pomfrey said.
Madam Pomfrey walked into her office and slowly Draco felt himself falling asleep in the lonely hospital wing. Draco wasn't sure how long he had been asleep when he heard a door open and then someone walking towards him. He didn't hear the squeal of Pansy or the clumsy footsteps of Crabbe and Goyal so Draco assumed it was Madam Pomfrey coming to give him more potion. Draco pretended to still be asleep when he heard a soft voice speak to him.
"You probably are asleep and not listening to me, but I'm glad you're okay. I was worried and I'm sorry it took me so long to check on you. You probably don't remember but our first year you wrote me a get well card and I'm sure you visited me in the hospital wing too. I don't really know what happened between us, why we are enemies, but even if we don't like each other I would never wish anything ill on you. Which is probably why I'm here. I honestly don't really know why I'm here because we don't like each other. Which I'm still rather confused about. Ugh this is so confusing."
There was a moment of silence. Suddenly, Draco felt light fingers grab his hand. The fingers were warm and soft and felt rather nice. Then Draco remembered who the fingers belonged to and he almost pulled away and sneered when he heard Hermione Granger inhale again.
"I just wanted to make sure you were okay I guess. I mean we were friends once. And, I wanted you to know I don't hate you. I hope if there is any goodness in your heart, you would not be the arrogant brat everyone thinks you are and not try to hurt Hagrid or Buckbeak. I've got to go now. Get feeling better."
Draco felt the hand leave his and then heard footsteps walking away from him then a door open. Finally Draco opened his eyes and looked at the closing door and saw brown bushy hair vanishing from view. Draco's hand felt empty and he clenched it.
No, he couldn't allow himself to care for a mudblood. And she wanted him to forgive the oaf and his beast. He decided that in the morning he would immediately inform his father of the happenings with monster and hopefully justice would be served.
