"W...WAIT!"
You turned around to face her, tilting your head. "Where are you going?"

You were surprised that she asked you that because although she was nice, she doesn't seem to want to know more about your problems as if... something was preventing her from talking to strangers.

"Uhm... I mean, it's late, it's very cold and everything is closed. It will be hard to find anything to eat or a place to sleep. It's dangerous for you to leave, don't you think?" She seemed very hesitant in her words.

You started to be suspicious... Does she care about you or... did she want to give you to the wolves during the full moon...?

She came up to you and felt your discomfort. "I'm saying this for your own good, you understand? I wouldn't have liked to see you devoured by the hungry wolves, little deer!" She chuckled.

She put her hands on your shoulders and leaned to be at your height.
"You know... I don't have much at home as you could see. But thanks to my husband and his generosity, we recently had the help of a well-to-do ... friend. I have something to feed you for tonight. And a place to sleep. But..."
She looked away.
She grabbed your shoulders tightly. With a worried look she sighed:
"You mustn't be spotted by my husband because... He will return from a village party at bedtime and... he musn't be aware that another person is here, do you understand?"
~~~
Y/N's POV:
Her husband? I understand that he doesn't accept strangers interfering in his family life, especially in a poor family.
I nodded as I held out my -very- little finger:
"Cross my heart and hope to die"
She frowned...
She doesn't know?
"You have to cross your little finger with mine to make a promise."
"Oh I see!" She made the gesture smiling. "Good. Let's go! I have to prepare dinner before, you'll have to wait a few minutes"
"Understood!"
We went into the house and I helped ma'am prepare the mashed potatoes. Or I should say... I learned. It was pretty cool.
While we were waiting for the potatoes to cook, we were talking about the neighborhood. One of the things she warned me about was that it was a dangerous neighborhood.
But hey, it won't stop me from having fun tomorrow! (well, after finding a solution...)
"Oh by the way, what's your name?" The gorgeous purple-eyed woman asked me.
"Y/N, Y/N Raki. Yours?"
"Call me Mrs. Brando! I see... It doesn't sound Swiss yet...?"
"Aaah... I don't know the story of my family except that my father is the heir to a Persian family. He doesn't look like a persian or an arabic and it's better because we must keep it secret, it can bring us criticism from the in-laws, cousins... You know the mix of culture between rich families... disturbs. «Preserves the authenticity of the family» But it's stupid! Don't you think?"
"My husband is half British half Italian. I completely agree with you" She smiled.
"We all have little secrets in our family. But you know, if it was a secret you shouldn't say it" she added.
...Oh nooo...
Will she repeat it to everyone? It will stain the family's reputation if the rumors spread from here to the house! I was afraid of consequences. I had a worried look.
"Y/N????"
"M- Mh?"
"Don't worry!" She said, gently tapping my back to reassure me. "It's a secret that I'll take to my grave. With the others..." she whispered the three last words looking into the void.
I'd like to know hers since she knows mine now...
"Mrs Brando...?"
"Yes?"
"Does it hurt?" I pointed to her neck.
.......
There was a long moment of silence. Interrupted by her broken voice:
"When we live just through love we have to make sacrifices, Y/N. You will understand once you grow up and... married."
I didn't understand the meaning of her sentence. Why does she talk to me about love when I ask her why she has a boo-boo on her neck?
Maybe because I'm too young after all...
No... I think I understood. I've seen my father being sad about how my mom can be rude with him. But he loves her so much...
"So... love can do such horrible things." I said.
"What do you mean?"
"Well... Life is a lie after all. From a very young age we're led to believe that we will live as in fairy tales. Haha. Actually, love is like The Big Bad Wolf in Little Red Riding Hood: we feed it with our feelings without knowing if it's really good for ourselves!"
"Are you sure you're 7?" She laughed.
"My dad explained it to me!" I said smiling.
"Cuuute"
~~~

After that, dinner was ready. Mrs. Brando has given you food so that you can quickly go to bed without Mr Brando seeing you. You lay down in four blankets as a mattress and Mrs Brando covered you with a blue little blanket.

"Sorry it's the last one I have left in good shape, it was my son's when he was a baby. But it's ok you're not that tall!" she said smiling.

"Thank you very much for everything you do, Mrs Brando. Here" You handed her your last coins to thank her.

She smiled warmly and shook her head. "No. You'll need it to send a letter to your parents. It's a pleasure to help you thank you for your generosity. Good night Y/N" she said leaving.

"Good night Mrs."

A/N:
