Bendy POV
I walked up to a police officer as he noticed I was coming so he set down his papers.
"Can I help you?" He asked.
"Yeah, uh, I have a friend who's husband beats her up." I tell him. It was a lie cause I was of course referring to myself, but I wasn't willing to risk anything yet until I knew what would happen.
"Then she should come in here, and file a complaint. And if he has physical evidence of abuse on her person, we'll go out and arrest him." He tells me. I tilt my head looking at him.
"And if he has money, he can bail himself out." I say and he nods confirming what I said.
"And then he's free until it goes to trial?" I ask.
"If it goes to trial. It's up to the city's attorney's office of whether to prosecute." He explains as I bit the inside of my cheek.
"Okay so, she comes in here, has him arrested, and pisses him off, and then there's no guarantee that he won't come after her, once he's out." I say gesturing with my hands as my arms rested on the wooden counter.
"She could get a protection order." He suggest and I held back my ironic laugh, but I couldn't hide my sarcastic smile.
"What's that? A piece of paper that says he can't come around?" I ask. He nods.
"So if he does come around what does she do? Throw it at him?" I ask once more as I did a throwing gesture and my brows raised. The officer narrowed his eyes slightly as he seemed annoyed with my sarcasm.
"She calls us." He corrects me keeping his cool better then I was.
"What about the kid? Is the," I took off my shades as I pinched the bridge of my nose feeling a headache before looking at the officer. "is the paper good for the kid too?" I ask, and the expression on the officer's face changes.
"There's a child involved?" He asks me as I nodded feeling worried myself.
"That's a matter for the family courts. But unless she can prove that he's a danger to the child, she can't legally prohibit him from-" He stopped as I quickly put my shades on and walked away to leave. He called for me but I ignored him as I felt stressed. I can't go to the police. If I do I could risk being attacked by him, he could take my child and I wouldn't be able to stop him, or worse. This might not even go to trial, and even if it did and I won custody, there's no guarantee he won't come after me. I feel like my life is in danger and so is Gracie's because I do not want that man around my daughter anymore.
Get Out.
The soft sound of a what was like an owl's hoot was audible to me as I opened my eyes. I looked over at Cuphead who seemed to be in a deep sleep. I looked at the clock on my small table reading '2:18'. I sat up and quietly moved out of the bed as I walked to the bathroom cautiously as I looked at Cuphead. Once I was in the bathroom, the sound of urinating could be heard, but it wasn't. I placed a small bottle of water in between the seat and the lid of the toilet as I put on a pair of sweats and shoes. I grabbed my coat and put that on as well as I quietly walked out the bathroom and through the bedroom. Cuphead still seemed to be asleep as I slipped out of the bedroom door. I looked at him before looking away as I closed the door.
I walked into Gracie's bedroom as I went to her small chair and moved her toys where I hid a bag of clothes and my handbag. I went to her and picked her up grabbing her little stuffed bunny. Thankfully she stayed asleep as I held her and walked out of her room. I looked down the hall to see if the door moved at all from the bedroom Cuphead was in, but it seemed untouched. I quietly went towards the living room as I went to a side door. I grabbed the handle of the door as I looked back at the house. I felt my stomach churn as I looked at my old life I was about to leave behind. I felt, guilty, for taking Gracie away from him. But I knew if I stayed I would be in hell.
