Rivendell was the home of Elrond Half-Elven and numerous other Elves. It was founded in the middle of the Second Age when Sauron devastated the countries of Eriador and became one of the last resorts for the Elves (and especially the High Elves) of Middle-Earth. It laid hidden in a deep valley near the Misty Mountains. Here the company rested for nearly one month and received friendship, food and important information for the rest of their journey.
