"Haha you're so slow." Bear teases me as we practice battle in the gym. It's been almost two months since she's arrived and slowly but surely she is getting the hang of things here.
"I may be slow but your technique is sloppy." I say deflecting her staff with mine. She tries to swing in down on my shoulder but I jab her in the ribs before she gets the chance.
"How dare you!" She gasps while smiling. I giggle and her eyes start to glow. Oh no, I try to thrust the staff at her while she's focusing but she catches the staff and knocks me down.
"Hey! No fair!" I say jumping back up. She just grins.
"If you were faster maybe I wouldn't have caught that." She grins. 098 doesn't like when we hang out, I feel bad but Bear is my friend now too. I feel a blow to my jaw.
"Ow! I was distracted!" I say.
"Your not supposed to be distracted on the battlefield!" Bear says mockingly.
"This isn't the battlefield this is the gym!" I say trying to tackle her. He flips me over her side with her eyes glowing. She turn to pin me but I focus in, everything has a light coat of blue resting over it. I see all the most likely outcomes of Bears attack. She will either straddle me or elbow me on the ribs. I roll over from under her and her elbows hits the hard flow.
"Gah!" Groans rolling on her side.
"Ha!" I grin triumphantly.
"Whatever Kiara." She says getting up. I slide my foot under her knee and she falls again.
"Your not supposed to call me that silly." I giggle. Bear gets up again and looks at me, "did I uh... did I do something? You okay?" I ask her. She doesn't seem all that playful right now. She forces a smile.
"Yeah I'm fine, you would make a great rebellion soldier." She says. Now it's my turn to force a smile. We both know we are never getting out of here but it's nice to dream.
"Maybe one day." I say putting the staffs back.
"Ya know... I have a plan." Bear says.
"We shouldn't be talking about this here." I say. It always surprises me how serious thing can get between me and Bear when we are just hanging out.
"Then let's go back to the quarters." She offers.
"Second meal is soon." I say ignoring the topic.
"Kiara..." she pleads.
"You also shouldn't call me that here. They have eyes everywhere 014, we can't escape." I says to her as we walk out of the gym. She takes my hand and starts leading me towards our quarters. I sigh, whenever Bear gets an idea there is no stopping her.

The guards stare at us as we walk down the halls. I try to pull my hand away from Bears but she has a tight grip. We enter our room and we both sit down at the table.
"The kitchen has a window." Bear states. That's impossible.
"Bear, the academy has no windows." I say to her.
"I've seen it, they use it to let the smoke out from the meals. We just have to go through the dinning hall to get to the kitchen." She says.
"They lock the doors after every meal. And even if they didn't there are guards everywhere." I say.
"I've thought about that too and I think I know a way around it. The guards shift places at midnight and there is an opening where no one is there for around twelve ish minutes, and we can pick the lock with a dagger from the gym." She says.
"Bear! They count the daggers after everyday." I say.
"Not everyday, on Tuesdays the staff gets a break." She explains.
"How do you know all this?" I ask her. She rubs the back of her neck nervously.
"Uh, you know how I said I haven't been getting much sleep." She chuckles anxiously. I sigh and put my head on the table.
"How are we supposed to get a dagger from the gym without anyone noticing? And how are we supposed to sneak out of our rooms at midnight, pick the dinning hall door lock. Get through the kitchen window in the span of twelve minutes?" I ask her.
"By being quick." She smiles. I chuckle at her little joke, I guess that's way she's been wanting me to train with her to be faster. The announcement for the second meal rings through the the academy.
"Race ya!" Bear says charging out the door. I laugh and run after her. Not before long she's out of my sight, probably laughing at me while already at the dinning hall.

"345 with 546, 064 with 234-" the instructor lists who will be fighting who. I hope I get to fight Bear, she always makes it fun and not like it's a job.
"014 with 098." Oh no... oh no no no. 098 glares at Bear and Bear looks her up and down. 098 is more stubborn than anyone here and Bear will take any challenge and fight until she can't fight anymore. I hear my number announced with some girl who's a year older than me, this will be fun.
