Chapter 5

Percy's POV

*Just as Percy started drifting to sleep*

As I fell into my usual ever fitful slumbers, I was disturbed by my usually demigod dreams by someone trying to contact me, on something that sounded oddly similar to an old radio.

"Percy!" a distant voice bleated, a voice that I recognized easily as that as my first friend that I had made, in the world of the gods.

"Grover!" I called out, "Why is this connection so bad?"

"Didn't Thalia tell you?" Grover asked, his voice sounding slightly closer, "the empathy link was permanently weakened by Hera!"

"Oh. Right." I said, feeling slightly embarrassed at having forgotten such an important detail.

"Anyways! I don't have much time." Grover said, breaking me out of my thoughts.

"Why? What's wrong, are you under attack? Do you need my help?" I asked, probably sounding worried.

"Wrong? No nothing is wrong!" Grover said, like it was obvious. "I just don't have time, because the connection is slowly failing. I am letting you know that whenever you return to camp, I won't be there. I am heading back out into the wild to perform my duties." Grover said, sounding a mixture of excited and tired when he mentioned his duties.

"Oh. Ok G-Man, just be careful, I can't lose anyone else!" I said, feeling a little upset, that he wouldn't be at camp.

"Don't worry! I have company." Grover said.

"Company? What do you mean? Did you find a way to allow Juniper to travel with you?" I asked, confused.

"What?!? No! Meg is with me." Grover said, like it was the most obvious thing in the world, let me tell you, it wasn't.

"Meg? The daughter of Demeter that traveled with Apollo? Why is she traveling with you?" I asked, thoroughly confused.

"Something about needing alone time after the death of Neros. And wanting to take care of the sanctuary in California! I think she said that it was her birth father's place." Grover said, obviously trying to rush through the conversation, and his reason was obvious as his voice had now started to get fainter and fainter.

"Ok G-Man, you two keep each other safe!" I said, "And IM me or something when you get to your destination so I know that you are safe, ok man." I continued quickly, earning an exasperated sigh from Grover

"Alright Percy. Well I better get going, this connection is about to br.." Grover said, before losing connection.

"Well now what?" I asked myself, as I continued to float in the nothingness of whatever this place was that I was in.

"Now you must prepare." Three voices said, breaking me from more of my thoughts. And causing me to jerk my head around so fast, that I probably got whiplash.

"Lady Fates?" I asked confused, "What do you mean to prepare? Prepare for what?"

"Your challenges have not yet ended, young hero. You still have many more challenges to face before you shall rest." They said at once, staring deep into my soul.

"Challenges?!?" I asked, feeling angry. "What do you mean challenges, why can't I be done now! Why must you continue to make my life harder? And why did you have to take Annabeth from me?" I asked, thoroughly irritated.

The Fates shifted, I don't know from what, anger at me, or uncomfortable with my anger. "That was not our choice young hero, we were ready to let you rest. But another power is interfering." They said, quickly glancing off to the side, but I didn't look, choosing to continue to stare the three sisters down.
