A LONG TIME AGO...Jack slammed through the wooden door when he entered his house. He was back after the horror experiences that he had not even thirty minutes ago. Eyes blood shot as his breath was shaky and unsteady. He couldn't get the horrible image of the pale face of Sierra, along with the dead bodies out of his head. It would haunt him for the rest of his life.
The brown-haired boy rushed another hand through his messy locks as he let everything sink in.
Sierra was dead. Nixie was missing. Besides, there was a big chance that she was already dead. Every innocent person living in that village was dead. He didn't even know if Caesar and Elenore were alive. They would be heartbroken if they knew that probably both of their daughters were dead.
Mary was devastated when Jack told her the news, one of her best friends died. She didn't take it lightly.
Another tear streamed down his cheek as Jack inhaled deeply. No. He couldn't let this happen. There was still a chance that Nixie was alive. There must be something that he could do.
And that's was he did. He searched everywhere for weeks without a stop, without any luck. The dark blond teenager couldn't be found anywhere.
In the meantime, the little spare time that he was home, Jack spend time with his little sister, playing games with her for example. They had a rough time both. Having comfort by each other as their bond developed more and more.
News spread fast about the nearby town and people were taking their own measures to protect their own families from the evil that lurked around the corner.
One time, about two months after the last time he was there, Jack returned to the village that once belonged to his girlfriend. A lump formed in his throat as he took in the familiar surroundings. It looked a lot more peaceful as he took another step towards his destination.
Fortunately, the bodies were gone, all of them that weren't eaten by wild animals, had a proper burial. The event was organized by people of his town after the awful news spread as a wildfire through the tiny town.
"Come on, Jackson. You can do this. For Nixie." He hissed through his white teeth while balling his fist. His fingernails digging into his pale hands. A big breath escaped his lips as he eyed the now abandoned house.
With a determined look formed on his face, he stepped into the house that belonged to the Silverbow household.
The warmth that could be felt once, was replaced with a certain cold feeling that radiated from the inside of the tiny building. He was certain that the temperature had dropped a few degrees.
The brown-haired boy mounted up the stairs as he traced his fingers along the banister that was located on his right side.
Sierra's room was dusty as a streak of sunlight creaked though the now ripped curtains. Jack walked up the other small stairs that leads to the small attic were Nixie's room was located. Jack pushed the hatch above his head open, dust resulting everywhere as he coughed loudly.
He was looking for something, something that once belonged to Nixie. He needed something from her to keep himself sane. The once lively plants where now nothing more than rotten pieces of compost.
As if they felt the weird aura around them. Her unmade bed, as if it was waiting for its owner to come back but gave up eventually, completely layered with dust and dirt that slipped its way through the tiny window above her bed. It slightly creaked as the wind increased outside.
It was still so unreal to him, as if he still wasn't waking up from the worst nightmare that existed.
For a moment his chocolate orbs examined the room around him, searching for something.
That's when he saw it. Hanging over the chair, was one of the favorite jumpers of Nixie.
Jack walked through the tiny room to pick up the fabric. Caressing the soft cloth between his fingers.
He brought it up to his nose. It still smelled like her after all this time. A sad smile formed on his pale lips as the familiar scent of lavender entered his nostrils.
With glossy eyes, Jack exited the tiny building and said his final goodbye, he had what he wanted. While biting on his lower lip, he took big strides. Every meter away from that place was as music in his ears.
The rest of the walk to his house, Jack was in deep in thought. The jumper clamped between his slender fingers.
After a couple of months, Jack didn't know what to do anymore. He searched everywhere, literally everywhere. Even the places that he didn't discover himself yet. Places that Nixie wouldn't even know the existence of. Everywhere.
Jack accepted the fact that he would probably never see her again.
He sporadically took out the ring Nixie gave to him when he was alone along with the dark green piece of clothing that he kept tucked under his pillow. A smile and a tear would appear on the boy's face. He would never forget her, he would always love her. A sparkle of hope twinkled in his chocolate brown eyes.
Something in him told him that she would be out there somewhere, that he would embrace her once again in his arms. That this was just a bad dream. He liked to believe that.
But another part of him told that him that it would be just impossible to ever see his girl again.
