-Alex
I walked through the halls aimlessly and found the beauty queen herself, Amelia Rose. She was applying lip gloss. I made my way over to her. ''Hey Rose.'' I winked at her. She let out a dramatic sigh and slammed her locker shut. I noticed the word 'dyke' faintly written on her locker. ''What do you want Alex?'' She crosses her arms. I took the chance to look at her outfit. Amelia was wearing black mom jeans with a red tube top. Her hair was nice and wavy today. I realized that I was thinking for a bit too long.
''I was wondering if you wanted to come racing with my friends and I. Not my invite. It's coming from them. Unless you can't even drive?'' I smirk and raise an eyebrow. Amelia frowns. ''You idiot. Of course I can drive. Haven't you seen me park my car?'' She asks. I laugh. ''Not everything is about you Amelia. So can you race or not?'' I ask. ''You'll find out Alex.'' She gives me a small smile.
''Hey baby.'' Connor, her boyfriend hugs her from behind. I saw her cringe. It took me by surprise because they were fine just last week. What could've changed? ''I have to go.'' Amelia says. ''I'll walk you to class.'' Connor says. ''I need to leave now.'' Amelia looks at me before leaving as if wanting me to go with her.
I refused to believe that she didn't like Connor. But I've heard many rumors about her relationship with him. All of them surround the fact that she might be gay. Whatever it was, I wanted to help her figure it out.
After school, the girls and I went to an empty lot downtown. ''Did you invite Rose?'' Avery asks, her dirty blond hair was flowing nicely. ''Yeah, why do you want her here so bad?'' I ask and lean against my car. ''She's like the hottest and best racer in the neighborhood.'' Jaiden pipes in. ''I didn't know that!'' I say. ''We need her on our side before she becomes more known in the area.'' Avery replied. ''So we're using her?'' I ask, raising an eyebrow.
''No, and even if we were, you wouldn't be complaining. Your eyes are all over her Alex.'' Adrienne says, her grey eyes were dark. She was sitting on her car, listening to our conversation. She smirks at me. ''No, I don't like her. And shut up, I think that's her car. Along with her car, there were two more driving behind her. ''Oh I forgot to tell you all. I brought the rest of the team. They're friends with Amelia,'' Adrienne points to the other two cars.
The boys were honking and shouting from inside their cars. Amelia gets out of her shiny red Audi R8. I was't surprised to see that she had changed her outfit. She was now wearing a tight black skirt and a matching top. Damn, she looks so, so hot. I'm also wondering how the fuck she drives in those heels of hers.
That skirt flaunted her long, and beautiful legs. Her light tan skin was glowing in the sunset. I loved how confident she was. What a goddess!
''Did you have to make that entrance so dramatic?'' I smile. ''Oh, shut up. I bet you were drooling Alex.'' She tosses her hair behind her. The girls laugh at me. ''Who's going first?'' Avery asks. ''I think I'll race with Alex. You underestimated me. So I want to prove you wrong.'' She smiles. ''Are you sure? You're racing with the best baby.'' Jaiden says. ''She's right. I'm captain and she's almost as good as me.'' Adrienne laughs.
''I'm not afraid of her. Let's do this.''
I got in my '65 Mustang and drove to the starting line. We looked at each other for a second. I don't think I could describe how sexy she looked in that moment. But I couldn't let her distract me.
''Ladies, rev your engines!'' Jaiden says over the strong roaring of our vehicles.
''Ready? Go!''
I stepped on the gas and glanced at Amelia. She was going at the same velocity. I focused on the road and continued to stay at the same speed. We also had rules. And it made everything a bit more intense.
1. Always stay focused
2. Do not get caught/arrested
3. Do your best
I stepped harder on the gas almost reaching the limit mph, 138. My adrenaline was rising. I gripped the wheel tighter, my knuckles turning white. We made a swift turn onto the freeway. I slowed down a bit but Amelia was still going at the same speed. What the fuck is she doing? ''Hey! Rose, slow down!'' I screamed. She ignored me. It wasn't safe to go so fast on the freeway even in a race. She could get arrested or cause an accident. But it seems like she knew what she was doing because she was heading towards the first exit. We were allowed to go off track as long as we went back to the starting position. I increased my speed, and headed to the next exit. There was a short cut around back to the lot, but I had to go at a slower speed. I was at a big risk of losing the race.
I reached the end, and saw her far in the distance turning into an alley. Fuck! I honked at the cars in front of me. At this point I was going to back up and turn to the next street. Finally, the light switched to green. I found the short cut and turned harshly, nearly losing control.
The car screeched to a halt. My eyes landed on Amelia's car. She was barely getting out. I was so close to winning! Brady, a member of our team walked up to me. ''Yo, that was extremely close! What happened?'' He rests his arm on my car. ''Took the wrong exit.'' I sigh. ''No worries. It was probably luck for her right?'' He smiles. ''Maybe.'' I replied.
The team was patiently waiting for us. Adrienne had her eyes locked on me. ''Alex! What happened?'' She asks. ''I took the wrong exit.'' I said. The girls looked at me in disbelief. ''You took the wrong exit or you found a short cut?'' Adrienne crossed her arms. ''I found a short cut.'' I replied. Everyone groaned. ''You don't take short cuts unless you had practice around the area first!'' Avery says. ''I thought I could make it!'' I yelled.
''Hey. Calm down. It's fine. You tried your best. Next time, go right behind, not ahead, then, increase speed. And let that be a lesson, team!'' Adrienne looked over her shoulder to the rest of the members. ''Who's next?'' Jaiden takes a hit of her blunt. I laugh. ''Definitely not you. You're high as a kite.'' I tease. ''I wasn't going to race anyway.'' Jaiden smiles and leans on her car.
I turned around and see Amelia staring at the city behind us. I walked towards her. ''That was impressive, do you know the area well?'' I ask. ''Sort of. I come here to practice sometimes, I know most of the short cuts.'' Amelia replied. ''Cool, cool. Can I ask you something?'' I glanced over to her. ''Go for it.'' Amelia looks down. She probably knew what I was going to ask.
''What's the deal with you and Connor?'' My question came out harsher than I expected. The brunette looked hurt for the first time. ''I'm assuming you saw what was written on my locker?'' Her pretty eyes began to water. She quickly wiped them. ''Yeah.'' I replied softly. This is going to sound absolutely ridiculous, but I've never seen Amelia so upset. It really hurt because I liked seeing her happy.
''My mom doesn't support me, and she wants me to date guys, hence, why I'm dating Connor. But I'm tired of it.'' Amelia says. ''I'm sorry, you could talk to your mom, and why being who you are makes you happy.'' I truly wished this girl nothing but the best. To my surprise, Amelia wrapped herself around me. I froze in that moment, I never thought my grade school crush would ever hug me. I might not seem to express my feelings because I'm not that good at it but my heart is racing!
''Wanna know something?'' She looks up at me. With my hand I moved a strand of hair behind her ear. ''What is it Rose?'' I whispered. ''I've liked you for a really long time, I was just too shy to tell you.'' Amelia smiles. ''I liked you too, but I thought you were straight and that I'd never get a chance.'' I reply, thinking back to the first time I laid eyes on her. ''I mean, you still have a chance. But do you think you could give me some time to figure my sexuality out first ?'' She asks. I smile at her. ''Yes, of course. Whenever you're ready.'' I replied as she gave me a big hug.
