The cold air whipped around my skin as we traveled down east, past the crashing waves of Mortem. I rolled the emerald gem that Kaden, my little brother, had strang the night before my travels.
The King was ahead of us with his trusted men, he's stallion black and strong rode unwavering from the harsh cold winds. I pulled the hood of my cape over my head to try to prevent my hair from whipping my face ruthlessly.
A light chuckle is heard behind me, General Attius rides by me with a large cheery smile.
"Aw, so adorable," he mocks me with no intention to supposedly hurt me. His mare is chestnut-brown but muscles like no other but in its own way majestic.
"I'm glad that you joining us back to Atlantis, the palace needs a touch of feminity," the General gently smiles like he's remembering something dear and sweet.
"Well, I won't be staying that much in the palace, I'll be out assisting the medical campaign," I said with raised brow but Attius just softly nods before rejoining his King.
_______________
The ride to Atlantis would take at least a week by carriage but my horse just a few days. However, the King requested to settle for the night a few miles from the Mortem infamous beaches. I asked for my tent to be facing the beach and so I could fall asleep to the sound of the never-ending flow of water.
However, that resulted in my tent being settled just a few meters off the King's rather large tent. As the sun began to wiery and the stars begin to wake, the light from the candles revealed the shadows of soldiers in their tents. This also means the King's striking figure was on full display through my tent.
I was given a few short-breads and soup of tomato-leak soup for dinner. Apparently, the King allowed Leo, one of my guards, to make dinner, making it obvious that the King didn't want me to feel threatened. Although Leo's cooking wasn't amazing but it was satisfied my hunger for that night.
As the sun rose, we set off to Atlantis, I rode my nag close to General Attius.
"Leo sure knows how to make good soup," Attius says trying to smooth a conversation.
"About yesterday, what do you mean by the palace needing a touch of feminity," I questioned, leaning a bit closer, eager to know the General's answer.
"All will be answered when you arrive at the palace," he spoke with such authority, that I didn't expect him to have. I felt embarrassed by my sudden intrusion into the King's personal life.
We stopped in front of a water flow, it was large and all-consuming. Before I knew it, several soldiers rode through the water, disappearing completely.
Atticus waved for me to follow him but I stood there confused, he rode to me and grabbed me from my horse before putting me between his arms.
"Don't worry princess, just hold on to the horse's reins for me," he winks at me before giving his stallion a little kick. We rode through the water flow and to my surprise there was a cave behind the water that leads to the city.
As the cave gave way, the city came alive in front of my eyes.
