Random Entry #5

I'm a girl who lives on a palace. Not a princess, nor a Queen but a servant. A servant who never fails everyone's command, as long as they're happy, then that makes me happy.

Then one night as I rest on the porch, I saw a thief. I approached him and asked why do he steal things? Then he answered,

"Because those things makes me happy"

I frowned as he show his wide smile with the sparkles of his eyes. I don't understand his reasons. So that's what I told him.

He chuckled and asked me, "What makes you happy?"

I told him about my work, how it makes me happy and he just laughed.

"My lady, I want to know what makes you happy on your own? Not because you saw something good on others or you made something good on others, makes you happy. That's not happiness at all, well maybe, a bit. But I need your own satisfaction on yourself. Are you contented on that kind of living? Taking orders from others? Did they even ask you if you're happy?"

That left me speechless. He's the first one who asked me about this.

Realization hit me.
I have a dream, an ambition.
I want to be a performer, but they never allow me. They never approved because I never refuse their commands. I thought giving them what they want would make them change their minds to allow me to let go and be a performer on my own. I thought I can be happy without reaching my dream and just by serving them with my whole heart. I forgot to give the things that I want for myself.

A tear escaped from my eyes.
Did I just realized what happiness really was?

I was surprised when he wiped my tears and gave me a genuine smile.

"I'll stop stealing things even though that makes me happy and change for the better for you. However, I want you to chase your dreams, leave this palace... make your own happiness and let me be by your side. Let's make your true happiness turn to reality. Would you come with me?"

I felt my heart skipped as he extended his hands.

I smiled and I gladly accept it. I ran away with the thief who just stole my heart and made me realized what happiness was.
