when topper got home after the sun had already set, the storm was already pretty bad. he had trouble keeping his car steady with the strong winds.
"theo, thaleia? is mom home?" he calls out to the house. the lights were all off but he heard light footsteps coming from the stairs.
"they're sleeping." astrid says, shocking him since she should have been home by now.
"why are you still here?" he asks, putting his keys on the counter and going to his room, motioning for her to follow him to explain.
"well you weren't back yet and i didn't want to leave them alone during a storm." astrid explains in a hushed tone as topper opens his mini fridge, pulling out a beer and popping it open.
"want one?" he asks and astrid pauses before shaking her head, she was working.
"well you can leave now." topper says as lightning lights up the room at the same time the power goes out.
"yeah, okay. they already ate dinner and everything. it was breaded chicken, i left some in the fridge for you." astrid tells him and since the room was so dark she didn't see the small smile he gave her.
"uh bye." astrid mumbles and turns to go to the living room, grabbing her jacket and pulling it on. she grabs her keys and opens the door, the rain pouring down harder than she'd possibly ever seen.
"damn." she whispered and walked outside, her hood blowing right off of her head as soon as water hit her. the water poured down on her, almost instantly soaking her body. she got into her car as quickly as she could and turned it on.
right as she went to drive away, a tree fell in front of her, blocking the driveway. she groaned and leaned her forehead on the steering wheel.
she did not want to go outside again so astrid decided to just sleep in her car for the night.
astrid climbed into the backseat and thanked herself for always having a blanket in the back seat. she pulled off her wet jacket and tossed it on the floor, curling up in the back seat of the car and trying to fall asleep to the sound of a hurricane outside.
she suddenly heard knocking noises on her car door and she opened it, sitting up.
"what are you doing?!" topper yelled over the rain as he climbed into the car. rain dripped from his hair steadily.
"a tree fell, i can't get out." astrid said and he looks around for a minute.
"okay we need to get inside." he says and she nods.
"come on, ready?" topper asks her and she nods again. he opens the door and grabs her wrist, pulling her out as the pair run to the door of the thornton household. as soon as they got inside they leaned against the door, staying silent as the water dripped onto the floor.
"we should change." topper says and they walk to his room. he goes into his closet and grabs a pair of sweatpants and a t shirt, handing them to her.
"sorry i don't have a bra or anything..." he mumbles and she laughs lightly.
"it's fine, i'll just go without." she says and meets his eyes which were widened.
"and you didn't need to know that, i'm sorry. i'm gonna go change." she rushed out and left the room. she changed in the bathroom, putting her clothes in a bag.
"we don't actually have a guest room, sorry." topper says once she leaves the bedroom.
"oh it's fine. i'll sleep on the couch." she assures him and he nods.
