I hear a ringing sound in my mind. I'm not sure if I'm awake or asleep. I'm extremely tired. Suddenly, my mind darts awake. The ringing is from my cell phone. My eyes shoot over to my clock. It reads 10:45. Have I really only been asleep for 30 minutes?
I pick up my phone. The contact reads 'Basement Phone.' "Damn kids.", I mutter to myself. I answer the call. "What do you want?", I say. The kid on the other end sounds startled, like he just uncovered a big secret.
"Is this Jakob?", he says. "Yes, kid. Again, what do you want?", I reply. "Sorry sir, I found this 'thing' in the bag and I was just testing it out." The kid sounded innocent, so I thought I'd be nice for a share and let him off the hook.
"Well, now you know, kid. It calls directly to my phone. Use it if y'all have an emergency." I then hung up. "Hope they get things figured out quick.", I say. "Or they'll be in for a big surprise."
I slept soundly knowing that tomorrow, we would be somewhat richer than we are today. Hopefully we could crack a good deal out of the boss. I just hope he isn't feeling too grouchy.
