It was nearing dawn and they were awake again, recently sated, tangled and sweaty. Camila was leaning half on his chest, her finger circling his chest lazily.
"So," he asked. "What now?"
She looked up at him with surprise, as if she hadn't thought that far ahead. Maybe she hadn't, he hadn't had time to think about it until now himself. Her schedule was etched in his brain. One week to go, finishing in Miami. Then, she had a week's break, which she would spend with her family at home, before she had to be in Spain to start filming her new movie.
"I won't have any time to see you before the promo tour."
"Mmmmm."
"What does that mean?"
"It means, I am starting filming my new movie in two days, in Vancouver."
"You are? How come I didn't know you are in a new movie?"
"Because I only accepted the role last week and they haven't even announced it yet. It seems I'm the go-to guy for last minute replacement roles."
"What it is it?"
"It's a sci-fi action movie, based on a book. It's called "The Gatekeeper". I figured with how much gates mean to me, it was a sign." She laughed.
"How long is the shoot?"
"A lot of it has already been done, but the guy who had my part had to go into rehab and they don't want him back, so we have to re-shoot all the stuff he was in, but it's not a big part, I'm not the star, so there's probably only about four or five weeks of it start to finish. How long is yours?"
"About three months total, but half of that is on location and half back in LA in the studio, and there is the Christmas break in the middle."
"I finish just before Christmas."
"And then?"
"And then I'll be in LA, working on my album."
"When I'm in LA."
"Yep, how about that."
"And then we go on the promo tour."
"I believe that is immediately after you finish filming."
"February."
They were both quiet. He already knew this part. He had come to terms with the fact that he couldn't see her until she was back in LA after Christmas. He hadn't planned on seeing her here in New York though, but now he had, he couldn't go back to obeying the no-contact rule.
"Mila, we can still text and call and FaceTIme. We've done pretty well with phone calls if I remember right."
She looked at him, her big brown eyes glistening with tears.
"What did I do to deserve you, Canada?"
"Oh, I can think of a few things, there was that time you...."
She laughed again. "Stop! I mean it. You could have any girl..."
"Not quite, but thanks for the vote of confidence!" He pushed her hair back from her face and kissed her softly. "I don't want any girl, I want you, I've always wanted you, even when I didn't know it."
"But why?" she asked, her lip trembling. "I'm such hard work."
"We don't choose who we fall in love with, Camilita." He said, almost in a whisper.
"Are you saying, if you had a choice, it wouldn't be me?" she asked with a sassy smile and a sniff.
"Are you kidding? I was really hoping I'd fall in love with Emma Watson. You know, she was my first crush. I mean, Hermione Granger, the hair, the eyebrows, COME ON! She was a ten year old boy's dream."
