"How's Jessica doing?" He asks in a mocking voice. "Has she tried tricking any other poor boy into hooking up with her this weekend?"
"Shut up Jonah." Rigel growls but I can tell that he's trying to avoid conflict. Jonah is about 6 foot 3 inches and towers 5 foot 10 inch Rigel by a lot.
"Aww, is your little boyfriend trying to be manly?" Jonah taunts again and I immediately decide that I don't like him.
"Just leave us alone Jonah." Jessica's voice is strained. I don't know if Jessica and Rigel are considered my friends now after only one conversation but I don't feel comfortable with the idea of them being bullied by Jonah.
"But where's the fun in that?" Jonah takes a step closer to Jessica and she clings onto Rigel. By the way Jessica is acting, it's obvious that Jonah scares her and something tells me that Jonah didn't just spread rumors about Jessica. She wouldn't be so afraid of him if the matter was just that.
I spot a water bottle gripped tightly in Jonah's hand and I can sense something about to go down. Just as I thought, Jonah empties the entire bottle over Jessica's head and Jessica shrieks. That's the last straw, I don't know who this kid thinks he is but he pissed off the wrong person.
Jonah throws the bottle on the floor and lets out a deep laugh, as if he just witnessed the most hilarious thing ever.
"Pick that up." I take a step forward and say in a loud, clear voice. He seems to just have noticed me and he runs his eyes over me before smirking.
"There's a new hottie in school." He exclaims. "and if she knows what's best for her, she will not mess with the wrong person." He says in a low voice, trying to sound menacing. "But of course, if she likes what she sees she can come and ask for some later." He cocks his head to the side and my blood boils.
"You littered, pick it up." I continue, as if he said nothing at all. "And if you know what's best for you, you'll think twice before ever bullying or commenting about another girl again." I say in a menacing voice.
"Look darling, you don't need to try and play hero. A pretty girl like you has no business messing with me. Since you're new, I'm going to let it slide." Jonah says and places a hand on my shoulder slowly sliding it down my arm. I've had enough of this nonsense.
In a split second I step back and throw a lightning speed punch into the lockers beside me. It leaves a large dent and Jonah nearly jumps. I did not fail to display exactly what damage I'm capable of causing.
"If you have even a bit of common sense, you will pick that water bottle up and apologise to Jessica." I step towards him this time and smirk slightly when he takes a step back, obviously afraid of me. "You don't want a dent in your face, do you?" I raise my eyebrows.
"You're just lucky that you're a girl, what do you think of yourself? Threatening me like that?" He says while taking steps back as I keep walking towards him.
"I might be a girl, but I'm a girl who can beat your ass. You don't respect girls anyway, if you do then apologize. Now." I clench my fist trying not to punch him. I'm supposed to protect him, not punch him.
"Whatever, fuck it. I'm sorry." He throws an apology at Jessica and stalks off.
"Hey loser!" I yell after him. "You forgot to pick up your litter." I say and crumple the plastic bottle in a ball before throwing it at him. A satisfied smile makes it's way onto my face when it hits him and he flinches. It was a hard throw and I'm sure it'll leave a bruise.
Jonah doesn't turn around but keeps walking, no doubt he's embarrassed.
"You were amazing!" Jessica squeals before wrapping me in a huge hug, getting me all wet.
"Jessica! You're wet." I groan and shake the water off me.
"Sorry, it's just you were so badass. Where did you learn to punch like that?" Jessica untangles herself from me and tries to shake some water off herself.
"I told you, I train." I chuckle.
"You've got to teach me." Jessica says and I catch the sight of Asa from the corner of my eye.
He was standing in the crowd and most likely saw my whole ordeal with Jonah. Suddenly another rush of guilt passes through me and I know that I have to apologize immediately.
"Asa, this is Rigel and Jessica they invited me to sit with them for lunch." I say nonchalantly. When he walks up to join me, I'm just glad that he didn't ignore me.
"Hi, I'm Asa." Asa smiles his charming, bright smile at them and they respond making small talk the I zone out.
I can tell that Asa isn't happy with me and weirdly I feel bad about it. I don't like that I feel bad about it. On the other hand Rigel and Jessica prove to be great company with their constant bickering and outgoing personalities.
It isn't until we have to go back home when I talk to Asa again.
"Look, I'm sorry that I snapped okay?" I unexpectedly find myself apologizing.
"It's okay." Asa smiles immediately accepting my apology.
"So that's it?" I look puzzled.
"What?" Asa looks equally as puzzled.
"I snapped at you and ignored you and I say sorry and it's alright?" I am very shocked at the fact that he went straight back to normal after I said sorry, like someone flipped a switch or something.
"Macey, when you said sorry it meant that you felt bad because you made me feel bad. There's no need for me to be angry when you feel bad, it's pointless to not accept your apology. Besides, I wan expecting the apology, I am irresistible." He chuckles and I shake my head, he is so different from me.
"Jokes aside, I'm serious Asa. I am really sorry."
"It's okay, Mace."
And that's how I walk him home with a light heart and then head off to my own house to get started on my Geography paper.
