"How'd you hide the fact that you're a senior tech from me for so long? We've been working together for like three months now."

I'm genuinely curious, the last three months of random missions after he'd been assigned to me were all minor ones, but he always listened to me and took my orders. The only time he refused to do so was when we were dealing with someone slightly more dangerous. I didn't like that he did so, but I'm pretty sure that I made that known information.

"Is this your way of reminding me that it's been three months since I officially made that mysterious and dreamy phone call?" He turns to look at me, a smile playing at his lips. I smile back involuntarily. Is this flirting? I don't know, I'm clueless.

"What? How do you even remember the specific day that you called me?"

"So, you agree to the fact that the phone call was mysterious and dreamy."

"You never answered my question."

"You ask a lot of questions."

I stop walking and face him, tugging on his wrist to stop him from walking as well.

"Asa, I'm serious. How did you hide that you're a senior tech?"

"I didn't. You just never asked, and I didn't think it was that important. You never told me that you were a spy, I could've just thought that you were a protector all along." He shrugs.

"But you had all my background data. You were the tech assigned to me, you would know what exactly my position is in the agency."

"I guess."

"How old are you?" I don't know where that came from. Really, I don't. I'm not lying.

"19." He says and shrugs. I snort.

"You're old." I reply bluntly but I swear there is something tingling in my stomach, did I mention that I'm a sucker for older guys?

"For the third time today. Ow." He places a hand on his heart again. I roll my eyes. "How old are you?" he asks.

"You'd know." I pick up my pace and I can see other kids from my school walking down the same path as us.

"17? But you're a spy, don't you need like serious training for that." He's looking at me as he speaks.

He's been doing that a lot lately, looking at me when he says something. I know we're taught that it's manners to look at someone when you speak but I never did, and Asa never seemed to too. It's kind of what made me feel so comfortable talking to him.

"I've been doing this shit since I was twelve, techie. It's been almost 6 years." I roll my eyes. I started training for becoming a spy at 15, three years before anyone even considered becoming a part of the agency.

"Twelve? Wait Macey, twelve?!" His eyebrows are scrunched up and he stops waking for what seems like the millionth time.

"Yes, twelve. I've been in UC for almost 6 years now. I've been forced to give up my childhood to protect other's childhood and I'm fine with it. I'm happy with my job and I love it. I really do." I say shakily though I had a matter of fact tone. "And you have to stop calling me Macey, my name is Chase."

"Mace, that's insane." He takes my hand. Totally ignoring my statement about my name. "I knew you must have been in UC for a long time since you're so young, but I just thought you were a protector. When I was told that I was going to be assigned to a spy I thought I was going to be assigned to a middle-aged man or woman. It was my first assignment after completing my training for becoming a senior tech and you should've seen my face when I saw a super hot high school chick as my assignment."

There he goes again. Is he making fun of me? Does he mean it? I know that in romance stories the female and male protagonists always make fun of each other and tease each other by jokingly calling each other hot, or some sickeningly sweet nickname. At least that's what Wattpad taught me, as you can see, I have very reliable sources.

"Haha, very funny. I just assumed you were a junior all along. How old were you when you joined senior tech training?" I deflect. I always deflect.

"I was 17."

"Tech training so young? And how in the world did you finish senior training in 2 years?"

"I had no other option, and I guess I was just really determined."

I don't question him. I didn't have a choice when I joined UC too. Asking him would mean that I would have to explain too, and it's not that I don't want to, but I have a feeling he doesn't and I'm respectful. I finally made a friend and a potential crush; I'm not going to scare him away.

We walk into the campus and part ways to go to our English classes.

School was a stress buster. I love studying. I love AP Physics and AP comp sci. I love the codes and I love feeling like I know something others taking other majors don't, as nerdy and dorky as that sounds. It's moments like this that I'm really thankful that I still get to go to school though I'm working. It took me a long time to get over the fact that I might never go to college or work towards earning the education I think I deserve.

"You're still on that code?" Asa's head pops next to me and he's reading through what I typed. His eyes skimming through the text in a matter of seconds.

"Not all of us are senior techs for an Undercover Agency, Asa." I roll my eyes.

"But this is child's play, I could do this shit when I was 13."

"Prodigies." I roll my eyes and mutter under my breath.

"What do you say, we skip 3rd and 4th period?" Asa finishes correcting a code and turns towards me, his eyes glinting.

"Asa, you might have finished the portions for the exams and you might be going through this for the thousandth time but I am actually a junior in high school and I need good grades."

"Objection, you don't need good grades. You have a steady income and a kick-ass job to be honest."

"I know I don't need them, but I've wanted good education for so long. Where I used to live, the crime rate used to be much higher and police much lazier. I could never focus on my education, I'm finally getting a great opportunity-''

"I was going to say that I found Christain's location. I thought we could kick some ass during 3rd and 4th period. And anyway, I can help you out of you need help in any of the lessons you'll miss." My eyes brighten at the mention of Christain's location being traced and Asa smiles his adorable smile at me.

"All you had to say was 'Christain' and 'location'." I start throwing my messy notes into my bag and shut down my computer.

"There are still 7 minutes till this period ends."

"Mr. Idontknowhisname is asleep and I finished coding and saving my process for this class." I say gesturing to our snoring computer teacher.

Asa grins.

"Let's go."
