MATTIA POLIBIO A FRIEND MORE THAN A LOVER

Chapter 7

Tia decided that he would save me from Alejandro and his crazy exercises. We took a jog at five in the morning and were back at six. Tia let me shower first and when it was his turn to wash up I heard his phone ringing. I answered it thinking it could be his parents or brother that needed something, but to my surprise I head a girl's voice, "Hello, Mattia? Are you there?" my heart pounded, I should not have answered. "Uhm no. Hi, I'm Anna. I am Mattia's roommate. He's in the shower, can I take a message?" I wondered if she was the reason Mattia got so mad when I said booty calls. Does he have a girlfriend? "Oh, can you just tell him Cynthia called to ask when our next date is." I nodded my head, but then realised I was on a call and she can't see me nodding, "yeah, sure, no problem". She hung up the phone. Now I was pissed. How can he keep such a huge secret from everyone? I have to expose him.

Tia finished up and we headed off to school. When we got there we ran into Kairi. He pulled me away from Mattia, normally Mattia would start to walk away, but he still stood there. "So Anna, do you want to meet up at the beach later?" this would be a perfect way to expose Tia and his girl. "Kai, can we bring all the boys along. I haven't spent much time with all of you. I miss hanging out together. And maybe this time Mattia would like to join us." Kairi looked hesitant. I hope he didn't take it the wrong way. I mean him and I can always chase Mattia home so we can have a movie night. "No problem, Anna. See you then." He kissed me goodbye. I don't think I can get used to that. It still felt so unreal.

I asked Tia if he would let me borrow his phone to tell the guys. He handed it over no questions asked. I messaged all the boys and then searched for Cynthia's name. When I found it I felt so bad for her. There were no hearts or nothing there. This man has to be the most boring boyfriend ever. I sent Cynthia a message and then deleted the text. She replied instantly and then I deleted that text as well. Now he'd have to confess.

Tia and I drove to the beach together; I blasted Stromae all the way there. The boys were all at the beach already and a pretty blond was chatting with them. When Kairi saw me he ran and picked me up. He lost his footing and he fell on top of me. The situation was too funny for us not to laugh. "So I'm guessing that she is the famous Anna." It made me uncomfortable how she knew who I was but I didn't know she was. "Yeah, and Anna this is my girlfriend Cynthia," Alejandro said eyeing Mattia for a reaction. Mattia seemed nonchalant about the whole situation. He moved to Cynthia's side, wrapped his arms around her and gave her a kiss. I looked away feeling uncomfortable. The boys all started barking like dogs, except Roshaun, I have no idea what dying animal noise he was making. After introductions the boys and Cynthia went to the waters and swam. I stayed behind to watch the bags and read my book. I was in the middle of tanning when a figure blocked my sun. Before I could ask him to move I was picked up, thrown over his shoulders and being carried to the water. No amount of screaming did anything. He tossed me into the water and I landed on someone. I turned to see that I landed on Mattia and the one who threw me in was none other than the stupid Hispanic boy who was about to die. I was about to get out and chase the fool when Mattia decided it would be a good idea to pull me under water. I kicked away from him and got out. I will be getting him back when he is sleeping tonight.

After the fun all died down it was time to head back. I drove with Kairi, Cynthia with Mattia, Roshaun drove with Robert and Alejandro's mom was picking him up. Kairi and I got to the outhouse before Mattia. He was probably dropping Cynthia at home. When I opened the door the principal was sitting on the couch. "Evening Miss Ravens, it is nice of you to finally come home." Kairi and I were frozen. "Mr Consentino you may excuse yourself." Not knowing what to do Kairi said bye and left me alone with her. "Miss Ravens, there is a room open in the female dorms. You will be expected to pack your things and move by the morning. You can drop your keys on my desk tomorrow when you are done." She turned to leave. "Wait! Ma'am, I know it is unorthodox and everything, but is there any chance that I can stay. I have grown considerably fond of your questionable boy. We have no I'll relation and nothing inappropriate has ever happened. I just, I don't want to leave him." I never looked up I kept my eyes fixated on the floor. When I eventually looked up I saw her nod, "As you wish Miss Ravens," and then she left. I felt my breathe return to me. I never thought about leaving this place, leaving Mattia. Morning coffee and jogs with him would still happen, but I wouldn't be able to ask him to choose an outfit for me or I wouldn't be able to fall asleep on the couch knowing that he would carry me to my room later. I didn't give it much thought after that. I went to bed and slept off all the negativity.

The next morning I woke up with a ping from my phone. It was a message from an unknown number.

Hey Anna, it's Cynthia. Mattia stayed by me last night and we decided that it would be amazing if you and Kairi could come with us to the movies later.

I replied with, sure why not.

After that I called Kairi to hear if he wanted to go, he happily agreed. Over the next month Kairi and I went on a lot of dates, but we weren't dating. I saw less and less of Mattia. I sometimes wondered if he was still boarding with me. Maybe I should have taken the principals offer.
