Kevin knew how much Sabrina needed him. She just needed that reiterated to her over and over and over and-- she needed to know that she'd been bamboozled. Swooned by a man who couldn't love her if he tried. Misled by lies to get in between her sweet thighs. He sighed, tilting his head to the side. Sabrina looked so peaceful laying in the bed next to Elisha.

She didn't deserve what Elisha put her through. Kevin hated every moment of that. The truth was, though, she was screaming to be rescued, and she didn't even know that she was.

The cries of Nightengale drew his attention to the cloudy night sky. The stars tried their best to peep from underneath the smoldering masses. They were like Sabrina.

Ava crept in his direction with a bag in hand. The darkness hid her hazel brown eyes, turning them into their true color.  Pulling out a pair of pliers and a gun, she placed the items on the ground, then glanced into the window. "You ready for this?"

Kevin smiled. "What do you think?"

"I'm going to go around the back and cut the power to the house while their sleep. And since you're skilled with a gun more than I am, you should take this," she said, handing him the gun.

He glanced at her hands. They were covered with black biker gloves. Fixing his eyes to hers once again, he smiled. He wasn't going to need Ava after this, he thought. Hell, she was probably thinking the same thing of him too. But that wasn't his problem at the moment. All he cared about was getting to the woman who had been waiting for him.

He watched as Ava crept from underneath the window and around the side of the house. He followed behind her, holding a small flashlight in hand to guide her path. Keeping the light toward the ground, he glared at the shoes she wore. They conformed to every inch and crevice of her foot like a glove. She'd done this shit before. There was no way she hadn't.

As they made their way to the garage, she looked through the window, then at Kevin. "Look in that bag and pull out that crowbar."

Kevin cocked an eyebrow. Without a fuss, he looked into the bag and pulled out the tool. He handed it to her and watched her pop the window open like it was a jar of pickles. "You got some skills."

"When you grow up like me, you've gotta learn how to put food in your belly." She lifted the window, then looked around inside the darkroom. "Wait for me."

"Sure," Kevin said. He looked around, scoping out the other houses. That was the one thing he loved about neighborhoods like this. Nobody wanted to fuck around and get shot, so they stayed their happy asses in the bed and let shit go by. Rich folks were good for that.

He ducked when the light inside the garage flicked on. He eased up, hoping no one saw the flash of light. Yet, as soon as it came on, it went out. Ava was damn good, he thought.

"Lights out," Ava said standing at the window. "I'll open the front door for you."

"What about the dog?"

"Don't worry," she said. "I'm not going to kill Fido. I"m just going to help him stay asleep for a little while longer."

"And the little girl?"

"She'll be fast asleep too." Ava positioned herself outside the window. "Don't worry. I will never, I mean ever, harm a child." She crossed her heart with an index finger. "Scout's honor, doughboy."

Kevin watched her as she slipped back into the darkness. He walked to the front door and wedged himself in between the hedges. Memories hit him like a brick, feeling his skin brush up against the jagged branches that had been recently manicured. Jacob had somehow gotten himself stuck in the bushes when they played hide and seek when they were children. He knew momma was going to send her David after him. He already knew that he'd hurt the golden child. But he just couldn't let his little brother stay there. He had to get him out. David, though, had other plans. Those plans didn't work out for his face either.
