"Wait you're telling me we have to be back in 36 hours?" You boomed as Poe told you the news.
"Y/N! It's five in the morning you need to quiet down!" He whisper yelled at you.
Oh shit yeah it is five. You shrunk into yourself a little and gave him a small sorry. You were still angered however, there is almost no way we could manage that if we were to stay under the entire galaxy's radar. Poe looked just as displeased as you were with the concept as he replied,
"Yeah, well we're going to have to do it whether we like it or not. Mothers orders."
He was right. Can't really disagree with him there. You rolled your eyes and accepted your fate. If Han could make the kessel run in less than 12 parsecs, then we can manage a measly pick up. You walked with Poe as you both reviewed the mission details, they weren't difficult, in fact you bet a kindergartner could comprehend the plan. Where it got tricky was the millions of others around the galaxy that would stop at nothing to get their grabby hands on the map as well. The most threatening of all being the First Order.
Though you've never encountered them yourself, you have seen their destruction in the operating room. Torn men entered left and right with very few hands to help bring them to recovery. You still remember the first time you let down your cloaking to force heal a patient who had sustained terrible injuries. With only 5 nurses and 2 doctors present there was no other choice, and your stupidly big heart would not let go.
You wouldn't let any soldiers death be in vain. Those soldiers were the ones who brought you to where we were, and you would not fail them, not today.
"I'm gonna go prepare the ship, I'll see you there in 10," Poe said as you both finished reviewing.
You have him a simple 'ok' and diverted your path to go collect your supplies, grabbing any necessary first aid, weapons, some food, the whole lot. You did a quick look through your things, and realized what could've very well been a fatal mistake. You had put your lightsaber into your bag by instinct. You swore at yourself, quickly putting it back into your locker before you forgot. You knew you couldn't risk revealing your identity to anyone. That reminded you, you brought your hands up to your hair and carefully unwound the single braid that signified you as a Padawan. No matter how much it meant to you, you knew you had to undo it. As soon as you finished and packed up your things you made your way out onto the cool tarmac.
It was a beautiful planet, D'qar. It was lush with greenery, making it a perfect hideout for the base, not to mention it being on the outer rim. You took in a deep breath, the thick moisture of a recent rain quieting your anxious thoughts. It was probably just nerves, but you couldn't help but sense an odd feeling in the force, as if it were trying to warn you. Warning in mind, you quickly began to mask yourself and continued on your way down to Poe's ship.
As you made your way to the ship, Poe's silhouette came into view. You released a pleasant sigh as he turned to see you. He's been a close friend of yours since you came to the resistance base, and you couldn't help but always have a small place in your heart for a life you could never have with him. He had always been there, to cheer you up, to lend an ear, to wipe away your tears. You thought back to the moment you both admitted it to each other, how it felt but would never work.
It was raining hard at the base that day. It was only mid afternoon but the clouds made it seem as if night had already fallen. You sat on the sill at an open window in his room while he laid on the bed reading, but he really was just looking at you. You went over to the door as you began to wish him goodnight but then he grabbed your wrist and held your gaze. You smiled remembering how shocked you were. You couldn't manage say anything, how could you when you both felt that same pull. His words still rang out vividly in your mind,
"No matter where you go, know I'll always protect you, I'll be your escape pod the next time you need one."
You were so shocked, you sincerely thought he had used the force to read your mind, but you knew as soon as he chuckled that he could never, he could just look in your eyes. He knew you loved him. It didn't stop there, as it was those last moments that always stuck with you,
You both knew your paths had very different endings, you read his thoughts and saw that all he wanted was to make sure that you both would never forget this moment. The moment in time when you both felt the very same way and envisioned the very same future, but knew just moments later it would never come to pass. This life was too muddled, too busy, for you to ever think of yourselves. So you both buried away the thoughts after that night and continued on as friends, confidantes, petty crime masters, but most importantly, as soldiers whose bond would never break.
"Y/N all he wants is a pat for gods sake just give it to him!"
You were jostled back to reality as a cute little droid better known as BB-8 kept nudging into your feet playfully pouting for some attention.
"Aw hey buddy! It's been a while," you said cheerfully as the little droid enjoyed his pat. You hadn't noticed you'd made it all the way over to the ship while you were deep in thought.
"Ready?" Poe asked with a serious expression on his face. You couldn't help but return the expression, it was time to turn off all the fun and games. You held his shoulder for support as you climbed into the copilot seat ready to shove off,
"More than."
