Eriks POV
__"This is amazing." She said
"I could not agree more," I said placing a hand on her abdomen and staring at her in pure and utter shock and amazement
"Mrs. Destler you are about four months along. Now because you are a new patient I need to get some information for our records before I can continue to treat you." He sat at the table and opened a folder, "Now, is this your first child?"
"No, we have a daughter Ava she's ten."
"Very good, now every pregnancy is different so you may experience different symptoms than the fist time and the delivery process could be easier this time as well. Are there any known medical issues that could be a concern?"
"Not that we know of on Christine's side, but I uh, do have a facial deformity." I paused waiting for a response
Doctor Anderson asked if he could see my face, which was something I am uncomfortable doing. After a little persuading from my wife I took off the mask and allowed the doctor to look. I've never had it examined by a real doctor before. I worry about it a little too much. I know Christine wouldn't care either way if our child had the deformity or not. Neither would I, but I would never curse this upon an innocent child.
"It is either a genetic mutation passed on from a parent or you got an infection as an infant. A cut or scratch that got infected and was not treated for. I've seen multiple cases of that, though they were treated early on."
"Our daughter was born with similar markings along her back and arms. They have gotten better as she has gotten older though." Christine informed the doctor
"That being said it is genetic, your child will only have a fifty percent chance of receiving it." Dr. Anderson spoke normally
I looked at him for a moment, and the doctor gave a look of understanding, "Sir I can assure you I've seen far worse, after doing what I do for as long as I've done you see some things."
"Now you two are free to go, whenever you wish. Though I would suggest making an appointment every three months until the baby arrives. Just as a routine check up and I also recommend you hire on a midwife, I can give you a few recommendations if you wish."
"That would be great thank you." Christine smiled
"Alright you two enjoy the rest of your day and congratulations." He handed me a paper with names and ways to contact midwives
We did as the doctor said and made a follow-up appointment. I was still processing all the information, but Christine was already glowing with happiness. She kept one arm wrapped around mine and one sitting on her stomach. I wrapped an arm around her waist laying my hand on top of hers.
We arrived back at the house agreeing to wait and tell Ava until after we processed the news ourselves.
I made sure Christine was comfortable on the couch, "Is there anything you would like dear?" I asked my wife
"Yes, I want you to relax. Play the violin for me please."
"Anything you wish," I left to the music room to retrieve my violin. It has been a while since I practiced, so it might do me some good. I went back into the sitting room and readied my violin positioning myself in front of the fireplace. I started playing the beginning 'Music of the night'. Christine relaxed and smiled down at her stomach as she rubbed it. I smiled as well, thinking about how my family is growing into something I thought would never be impossible.
Christine sang along to the music lightly and watched me with bright, loving eyes as she relaxed into the couch.
Christine was the one to call Madame Giry and Meg, along with Nadir to stay for dinner when they brought Ava home.
