Wei Wuxian tried to pay attention in class. He really did. But it was just so boring.
It had been a month since he and his siblings arrived in the Cloud recesses and everyday Wuxian was tempted to run away.
Currently, Lan Qiren was going on and on about some part of cultivation history and Wei Wuxian was trying not to fall asleep listening to it. These lectures were so drawn out and boring. Seriously, couldn't the Lan's make these a little bit interesting?
Thankfully he wasn't the only disciple who was bored out of his mind. Beside him, Nie Huaisang was dozing off, his head dipping behind his fan. Discreetly, Wei Wuxian grabbed a piece of paper and balled it up, throwing it at the other boy. He watched as Huaisang jolted awake when the paper hit his shoulder and looked around to see who could have thrown it. He rolled his eyes though when he saw Wei Wuxian giggling quietly. He huffed and threw the paper back at him. Wei Wuxian gave him a quick grin before turning back to the front of the room.
Lan Qiren had gotten up from his seat now, pacing up and down the rows of desks, still going on with his lesson. As he walked closer and closer to Wuxian's side of the room, he got a little idea. He grabbed a brush and pretended to be taking notes. Instead, he was sketching a little picture of a turtle. As soon as Lan Qiren went by his desk, Wei Wuxian placed the piece of paper on the man's backside.
The disciples around him took notice of it and started laughing quietly to themselves. Wei Wuxian hid a grin behind his sleeve. Finally, a little bit of excitement in this place.
At the sudden burst of laughter, Lan Qiren turned and glared at the students. "What's so funny? Quiet!" When the disciples had stopped, Qiren huffed and turned back. The disciples immediately laughed again when they saw that the turtle was still attached to his robes.
From behind his uncle, Lan Wangji caught sight of the paper and quickly took it off of his robes. Once it was off and Lan Qiren had failed to notice, Lan Wangji glared over at Wei Wuxian who was still laughing. As Lan Wangji continued to glare at him, Wuxian huffed and looked away. Gosh, why wasn't that Wangji any fun?
Ever since their first meeting, it seemed like the jade would always avoid him. Even when he tried to apologize for all the rule breaking, Lan Wangji would walk away. What was the deal? He couldn't avoid him forever!
Wei Wuxian glanced at Lan Wangji before taking out a paper talisman. This would get Lan Wangji to notice him. He then watched as the paperman flew through the air towards the other boy. Unfortunately, Lan Qiren looked up and caught him at the exact moment as the paperman landed on Lan Wangji's arm.
Wei Wuxian laughed when Lan Wangji glared at him and crushed the talisman. Such a fuddy buddy.
"Wei Ying, it seems like you don't need these lectures anymore," Lan Qiren said, placing the scroll he was reading from down and looking to Wei Wuxian. "Then let you ask you these..."
Qiren then fired off a round of questions all of which Wei Wuxian answered perfectly. It seemed to infuriate Lan Qiren but most of the disciples were looking at him, impressed. When he looked over towards Lan Wangji and he wasn't glaring anymore. Granted his face remained blank but Wuxian wondered if he was also impressed.
He continued to look at Lan Wangji curiously and it only made Lan Qiren angrier.
"Wei Ying!" he shouted. Wei Wuxian snapped to attention when he heard his name. He had been watching Lan Wangji for so long that he didn't hear Lan Qiren's last question. He could feel his ear reddening at that. Qiren was glaring at him now. "Wei Ying, what did I just ask you?"
