After a peaceful morning, I made it to Blu Technologies half an hour before I had work. I needed to ask Carson if I could have any more time to choose my occupation.

"What are you doing here? Didn't Carson fire you?" Cami side-eyes me, and I roll mine, ignoring her.

"Don't ignore me!" She screeches, but I continue towards Carson's office.

"JACKSON!" I hear before shutting the door behind me.

I sit down in the chair opposite to Carson, removing my sunglasses.

"Miss Jackson?"

"Yes, hello Carson-"

"Mr. O'Connell will be fine from now on," he looks at me lazily, and I internally roll my eyes.

"Mr. O'Connell, is there any way I can get more time to think? About, you know..."

"Right, right. Actually; you're in luck. A few interns will be coming in, and are working at the very desk outside. They will be here for a month, so that gives you plenty of time to reconsider your choice of working for Rellek Corp."

"Right... thanks Ca- *ahem* Mr. O'Connell. I should be going now, bye." I finger wave, leaving his office with my purse and glasses in hand.

On the drive to work I exhale in thankfulness for the extra 30 days I have to pick my future job, though I don't know why I need it. The choice should be easy for me. I basically co-own Rellek Corp now, but something is stopping me from choosing that job permanently.

Annoyed with my thoughts I crank up my radio to drown them out, mumbling the words of You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift.

After five minutes of driving, I enter our office to see Timothy talking to Kenny. I wonder what they're talking about. I approach them, my footsteps muffled by the carpeting.

"Um, hey! What are you guys talking about?" I ask, and they jump slightly.

"Oh hey, Jenny; just your party this Friday," Kenny answers, and I scrunch my face at his smug one.

"...What party?"

"Your promotion party, duh. We talked about it last Thursday," Kenny points out and all I can muster is an "oh".

"Yeah, it seems like it's gonna be big," Timothy joins in, and I glance between the two.

"Big?"

"Of course! Balloons and booze, snacks and singing, karaoke and kissing-"

"A big no to the kissing," I cut in, and Kenny rolls his eyes.

"Jenny, it's about time you get a man. You're, what... Forty?"

"Really? I'm thirty-one!"

"Same difference. Point is, you're sad and lonely. You should be married, have a man to help you with your kids-"

"I can take care of my children fine by myself, and I don't need some stuck-up, arrogant controlling man to help me!" I exclaim, my fists clenched in anger. I'm not sure where that outburst came from, but it definitely shocked all of us.

"Now excuse me; I have work to do," I conclude, immediately typing as soon as I sit down.

"Ok, uh... I guess I have work too. Be there, Timothy!" Kenny awkwardly excuses himself from the room, leaving Timothy to deal with me and my ferocious tapping.

"So Jenny, you okay?" He asks, and I roll my eyes.

"Whatever."

"Do you need to talk about it?"

"Whatever."

"Are you going to use your vocabulary or just that one word?"

"Whatever."

"I'm going to fire you."

"Whatever."

"You have one more minute to live..."

"Whatever."

Yes, I know I'm being petty and no, I don't care.

"Fine. I'm getting donuts."

"Get me three and the largest sized iced coffee, no sugar."

"Oh so now she speaks," I hear Timothy mumble, and I smirk slightly.

"Whatever."

After three donuts, one XXL iced coffee, and six hours of work, I strut out of the building with my head high. Today I finished a billboard for an environmental club, designed posters for three different events and managed to fit in some decent rough sketches for some other projects. I said bye to Timothy, Kenny and Sammie, and am now making my way to my blue Civic. I start the car, driving out of the parking lot feeling proud of myself. I have never gotten so much work don't before (well, I've only worked here for about two days, but still).

Stopped at a red light, I pull my buzzing phone out of my pocket. I glance at the caller ID but don't know who it is.

"Should I answer it?" I utter, driving again. For all I know it could be some scammer waiting to take all my money. I ignore it, tossing it on the passenger seat. Of course, it had to ring again. And again. And again. Finally, getting sick and tired of the stupid buzzing sound, I press the speakerphone and secure my phone to my magnetic stand.

"Hello who is this?" I ask, still focusing on the road.

"Jenny? Is that you darling? Oh, I'm so glad you didn't change your number *deep inhale*"

"Um, who is this?" I ask again, glancing at my iPhone.

"It's your mother! After all these years and you don't even recognize me, oh!" She sobs, and I scoff.

"Well, seeing as I ran away as a result of your abuse fourteen years ago, you can't really blame me."

"Oh Jenny, I'm so sorry about that; but we do have larger matters to deal with." She sniffles, and my annoyance shifts to concern.

"What's the matter?"

"It's your father,"

"What, he stopped providing you with money or something?"

"JENNY! My word, where did you get this attitude from? Ugh!" Insert eye roll here. "Jenny, seriously. This is important."

"Ok, what's wrong with dad?" I ask carefully, and the news hits me like a bus

"Jenny... your father is dead."

This was supposed to be a part of the last chapter, but I feel it makes more sense like this. Also if you didn't catch the memo, it's Monday.

I'm sorry this took so long (and is still pretty short) but the next chapter is already waiting to fall out of my fingers.

On the other hand...

*insert sobs* Jenny's dad is dead 😢

Tell me how you feel. Do you think Jenny was close to her dad? Do you think they were mad at each other? How did Jenny's dad die? What do you think of her mom? Is she a brat? Is she annoying? Boy, do I have plans for her.

Ok, I'm gonna stop being annoying.

Bye-bye!
