There's about one hour until the party should end, but it doesn't look like any body's leaving anytime soon. Things are starting to get crazy, and I decide to bring Mia and Keisha home before any trouble starts. That is, until...
"Jenny! Darling, guess who's here!"
"M-mom?" My mouth drops open. "Why are you here?"
"Oh, well is there any harm in visiting my daughter?" She pouts, and I roll my eyes.
"Right. Excuse me," I push past her, going towards the basement but she grabs me before I could get far.
"Jenny! I am your mother! I have never raised you to be this rude."
"You've never raised me, period. And you know what they say - the apple doesn't fall far from the tree," my arms cross.
"Jenny!"
I look down at my mother physique. As time passed, I've gotten slightly taller than her (standing at a whopping 5'10) but, as much as I hate to admit it, she still looks good. Well, as good as a 53 year old container filled with plastic can look. Her hair is neat, her outfit is crisp, and she still reminds me of the woman who kicked me out of her house crying 14 years ago.
"Jenny, there's something I must ask of you."
"Don't worry, I've forgiven you already. That doesn't mean I like you."
"Nonsense, darling. I don't need your forgiveness. Well, unless I do in order to stay with you."
"Excuse me?" I double-take.
"Yes, I will be staying with you for the next month or so. With your father gone, there is nobody to cover my expenses." She rolls her eyes, and I shiver with disgust for her.
"I'm sorry, Alma, but you will not be staying with me. Plus, what about Dad's will? I'm sure you've been all over that, huh."
"Oh that? Yes, yes... uh- it's being sorted out, but I need some time."
"That's a load of bullsh*t," I spit at her.
"Jenny Walma Jackson, watch you mouth."
"Whatever. I'm leaving, and you're not coming with me." I turn and leave, thankful she didn't say anything else.
"Keisha, Mia let's go." I say, poking my head into the basement.
"Already?" Mia complains.
"Yes, already. People who I'd rather not talk to are here and it's getting late. C'mon," I nod my head to the basement door and leave, making my way to the car. Once it's started and the kids are in, I drive Keisha home then Mia and myself.
"Mom," Mia starts once we're inside. "Did I see Grandma at the party? How did she find us so fast?"
"I don't know Mia, but if you see her, stay away. Trust me she is not someone you want a part of your life. Just forget about her and go to bed, okay?"
"Okay, Mom. Goodnight."
"Goodnight Mia," I hug her, and she runs off to bed, then I do the same.

--x--

This Saturday was like any other Saturday. I hung out with my kids, hung out with Maria, though about getting fired...
Ok maybe that's a bit extra.
If I'm being honest, though, I'm not surprised what happened happened. And I kind of feel bad for Timothy, I mean, I practically lied to him, expecting to get away with it. Whatever, what's happened has happened and we can't change it, I guess. Still sucks.
You're just upset because you know that I'm right. You're nothing.
Shut up, I tell the voice, who somewhat sounds like-
"Mom, dinner's on the table. You good?" Mia interrupts my thoughts.
I nod "All good, let's eat."
As Asher, Mia and I are digging in to our grilled chicken and salad, we hear an aggressive knock on the door. We all look at each other, silently asking "Are you expecting anyone?" Mia then jumps to check who's there, but jerks into hiding when she see's the visitor.
"Mia, who's-" I stop, silently questioning the finger to her lip. She tiptoes back to the table, and quietly whispers it's your mom. Both surprised and annoyed, I bend back just enough to catch a quick glimpse of her cheetah printed jacket, which is a bit extra for the cool weather we've been having. I roll my eyes, hoping she thinks no one's home. Thank God I parked in the garage.
"Jenny! Jenny, darling, I know you're in there! Marissa! Is your mother there? I need to speak to her. Marissa! I know you're there! Hello? I know you're in there! Hello! Jenny open this door!"
"Did she just-" Mia glares at my mother through the door, clearly upset that her name wasn't remembered.
"Mommy, why aren't you answering Grandma?" Asher asks.
"Because she's not someone I would like to talk to. However, I would like the banging to stop, so I'm going to answer her." I get up, telling my kids that they can continue without me and answer the door.
"Ugh, finally! What were you doing, sleeping? It would surely help the bags under your eyes. Concealer, Jenny. Heard of it?"
I ignore her insults. "Mom, what are you doing here?"
"Oh well I-"
"You're not staying with me. How did you find us?"
"Oh that's easy. So Raina, your 4th aunt, thrice removed? Yeah, she has a daughter named Janet, and Janet has Mia's Napchap, or whatever. So, very interesting, on Sapchan, you can see people's locations! So all I had to do was call Raina and ask her to check Janet's phone Sighmap - since she lives with them - and voila! Since you're constantly with Mia, I have your location."
"Wait, you stalked Mia's Snapchat location?!"
"Oh, is that what's it called... Yes, but it was my only way of reaching you."
Oh my gosh. I should just file a restraining order and get it over with.
Nah, that's too much of a process. I'll keep it in mind, though, just in case.
"Mom- not even, Alma, stay away from my family and me, or I promise it won't be pretty. I don't need your toxicity around me anymore, I've put up with it for 17 years and I'm done. Leave. Me. Alone." At that I lock the door in her face then return to the table to finish my now cold dinner.
"Sorry Mom..." Mia says quietly.
"For what, Mia?"
"It's because of me why Grandma found us in the first place."
"Oh, don't feel bad about it Mia, you couldn't have known. Just be careful next time. In fact, you should check all your privacy settings just in case." I say, bringing my now hot food back from the microwave.
"Okay, I'll do that," she smiles, and I return the favour. I have to admit though, as much as I dislike my mother, her plan was pretty smart - in a creepy, stalkerish way.
Moving past the previous events, we all have a nice dinner together and for the first time in a while I feel happy.

Spoiler alert. Whoops. Oh well, that's my job.
OBJECTIVE #1: make Jenny's life miserable
OBJECTIVE #2: make your lives miserable :)
Just kidding, sort of...
What do you guys think of Jenny's mom? I didn't want to make her completely hated, so I added some sass in for fun . ^ .
Also, I'm sorry this is such a short chapter, but I wanted to keep up with my promise and post before the end of the month, so I stayed up past my bedtime to do so 🙈. I've really been suffering from a lack of inspiration, so please forgive me :(
One last thing, that voice... who could it be? Tune in to find out ;)
K I really gotta go to bed so...
