"Guys wake up! We have to pack everything before they kick us out of the hotel!" I inform my kids.

"Mom, just take a look around and rethink that sentence." She raises an eyebrow.

Oh right. I co-own this place.

"Right... Well still, I've prepared your outfits already, and we have an hour before the funeral. Mia, we can go shopping if you'd like-"

"Can I hang out with Zayne?" She grins widely.

"Mia..."

"Please, you said maybe tomorrow yesterday!"

"You know I don't like him, he gives me weird vibes."

"Mom, please!

I roll my eyes. "Fine, but you have to stay near us."

"Yes! Thank you, Mom!" Mia hugs me, then runs to text Zayne the news.

"Mommy, can we go to the park? I met someone at the beach and they said they'd be there. Her name is Ashlynn and she's really nice."

"Sure, Asher. We can get breakfast, too. I'm too lazy to make anything."

Once everybody is ready, we drive to a local diner and get something to eat.

"Yes, uh..." Mia begins once we've been seated and a waitress comes to serve us. "May I get the Dailey Deal, with a cup of sweet iced green tea?"

"Yes ma'am, and you, cutie pie?" She asks, turning to Asher.

"Hmmm..." Asher ponders for a moment, glancing over the adult menu which he somehow managed to snag.

"I'll get the pancakes and waffles with extra butter and maple syrup, bacon, eggs - scrambled NOT fried or hard boiled or sunny side up 'cause those are gross - the par... parf..."

"The parfait?"

"Yeah that, it has blueberries. And..." Pause. "2 cups of hot chocolate with extra whipped cream and extra chocolate."

"Are you sure you're gonna eat all that, Sweety?" The waitress asks kindly.

"It's not all for me, I'm sharing it with my friend Larry. He's sitting right next to me, can't you see him?"

"Oh of course! And he looks really hungry, too. I'll give you extra whipped cream with sprinkles, that is, if it's okay with mum." She looks

"It's fine, but don't think of this as a normal thing, Asher."

"Great! And anything for you, mom?"

"Nah, I'll just eat their leftovers."

"Perfect, I'll be back soon," she smiles kindly, hurrying to fulfill our orders. As soon as she comes back, we immediately start to dig in to our food. Well, Mia, Asher and  "Larry" do, and I wait for them to become full, which ultimately doesn't take too long. Once we finish eating I pay the bill, and we make our way to the park. Mia meets up with Zayne, and they stay in the park's general area, Asher ends up finding his new friend Ashlynn and they play together, and me?

I sit down on the bench and read a magazine like a mom. That is; until I get a new message from an unidentified number.
