EXT. METROPOLIS STREET, DAY.
Back on the ground, Lois, the military, and a bunch of other people have gathered in front of the Daily Planet. Lois runs up to her father, who is coordinating tactics with some other soldiers.
LOIS LANE
Dad, what happened? Where did they go?
GENERAL LANE
Not sure - Superman just flew them both up into space when-
BOOM! General Lane and Lois are interrupted by something landing on the other side of the street. They look behind them to see a large crater. As they and the rest of the crowd look surprised, Superman crawls out from the crater. The body of Metallo can be seen behind him.
SUPERMAN
Afternoon, General....Ms. Lane.
(gestures behind him)
I believe you're looking for him.
General Lane and Lois look shocked...and a little relieved.
Fade to the same street later on, where Metallo is seen being hauled away by several soldiers. He is being restrained by some high-tech equipment.
METALLO
This isn't over, freak! I swear, when I get out of here I'm gonna kick-
Metallo is interrupted by the whir of the helicopter that lifts him off the ground and into the air.
Meanwhile, Superman is checking on civilians when General Lane walks up behind him. Superman notices, seeming a little nervous when talking to him.
SUPERMAN
...General.
GENERAL LANE
Superman.
(looks up at the Daily Planet)
My daughter tells me you saved her from Corben's attack.
SUPERMAN
Well, shucks...just trying to help is all.
GENERAL LANE
(a little annoyed)
You keep saying that.
(looks Superman dead in the eye)
Now let's make one thing perfectly clear - if I had my way we'd be on our way to ARGUS headquarters right now figuring out what to do with you. But...the higher-ups in Washington seem to trust you. Something about "extraordinary heroism."
SUPERMAN
OK...
GENERAL LANE
Let's just call it a truce for now. You can stay here, do your superhero thing, but just know...I've got my eye on you.
SUPERMAN
(gulps)
Um...good to know, General.
GENERAL LANE
