INT. LEXCORP LABORATORY, EVENING.
Back in the Lexcorp laboratory we left Mercy and Lex in, a group of scientists is leading the Lexcorp CEO around the room as different devices and inventions are being tested in the background. Lights are flashing, motors are whirring, and we pretty much get the sense that this is the room in the building where most of the work happens - or at least the room where Lex's ideas get tested out before being introduced to the general public. Lex looks impatient as the lead scientist shows him towards the far end of the room.
LEX LUTHOR
(annoyed)
Dr. Shuster, I know your interpretations of my designs may seem impressive, but the sergeant will be here any second. I did tell you to make me happy, didn't I?
Dr. Shuster thinks for a minute, then suddenly comes up with something and smiles.
DR. SHUSTER
Aha! In that case, Mr. Luthor, I think you'll especially like what we've got cooking over here!
Dr. Shuster leads Lex, Mercy, and the other scientists over to a large vat on the far side of the vat. The moving camera shows us that this vat is filled with a pulsating, bubbling purple liquid, that seems to be messing with the surrounding electronics. Electricity pulsates from the lights above and bounces off the liquid in a rather spectacular light show.
LEX LUTHOR
You brought me here for a light show?
DR. SHUSTER
It may not seem like much, but this chemical is unlike anything we've ever seen on the periodic table! Ever since we dug it out of that meteorite a few months back, I've been amazed at its properties! According to our research, I believe that it is able to manipulate energy in a close proximity, absorbing that energy into its very being and taking on incredible power!
Lex listens to the speech, and looks more than a little interested.
LEX LUTHOR
I take it back - you're department's not as useless as I thought. Perhaps I could take a look at this...chemical after we're done meeting with the sergeant? I'm sure we can come up with something useful-
Suddenly, Lex is interrupted by a rather loud crunching of chips, and looks to be on the edge of losing his temper for such an insult. He angrily looks to the side of the vat, only to find RUDY JONES, the overweight, pushing-middle-aged janitor, munching on some chips while clearly not cleaning up the floor. Rudy, having large headphones on his head, is oblivious to Lex and the others looking at him. However, as someone clears their throat, Rudy suddenly looks up with a surprised look on his face - almost like he didn't think anyone else was even in the room with him.
RUDY JONES
Oh, hey, Mr. Luthor! Sorry, I didn't see you there.
(stumbles over his own mop)
Don't mind me; one of the guys downstairs told me to clean the lab, figured I'd get it out of the way before the shift ends...
LEX LUTHOR
(snatches the chips out of his hands and crushes the bag in his hand)
Just...get back to work, Mr. Jones.
