INT. DAILY PLANET, MORNING

We cut to the inside of the Daily Planet, the most popular newspaper in Metropolis. It is a hustle and bustle of people running around, typing at their desks, and a multitude of reporters trying to get the next story. As the camera follows the goings-on of this great metropolitan newspaper, we settle on the door to the office of PERRY WHITE, the editor-in-chief.

We cut to the man himself sitting at a desk - a gruff, grey-haired, slightly rotund man in his mid-sixties, almost filled to the brim with impatience as he waits for his meeting to begin. We can see this is not a man used to waiting for results.

PERRY WHITE

(impatient and tired of waiting)

Great Caesar's ghost! "Just wait a minute," he says. "Fresh new story," he says.

(slams his hand on the desk in frustration)

Clark Kent is officially fired in five seconds!

Cut to an overview of the street outside the Daily Planet, with people walking about, cars driving by, and general city life going about as usual.

PERRY WHITE (V.O.)

Five...

Suddenly, a little boy runs out into the street chasing his dog, who has run away and across the street.

PERRY WHITE (V.O.)

Four...

A car's horn honks, alerting the kid to the car about to flatten him like a pancake. The boy closes his eyes, bracing for impact, until...

PERRY WHITE (V.O.)

Three...

In the span of a split second, a red-and-blue blur zooms in at super-speed, pulling the boy out of harm's way and planting him and his dog on the other side of the street.

Cut back to Perry's office, where he is finished counting down the seconds before Clark Kent can kiss his job goodbye.

PERRY WHITE

Two...one...

CLARK KENT (O.S.)

H-Hold the presses!

Suddenly, Perry looks up to see Clark Kent barreling into his office, out of breath and holding the latest exclusive in his hands. Gone is the prototype Superman costume we saw him in before, and the bruises are mostly healed up probably thanks to his Kryptonian DNA. Instead, Clark wears a blue flannel shirt, jeans, and a red hoodie, with large spectacles over his eyes, almost looking like a gorilla in a tuxedo with the awkwardness that radiates from his entire being. Sure, he may not be as physically clumsy as some past incarnations, but behind all that muscle and aw-shucks personality is a social clumsiness - a certain shyness with people outside his close circle, that permeates itself in every word he utters in his high-pitched, midwestern accent.

PERRY WHITE

Kent! Where the hell have you been? I expected that exclusive five-point-two seconds ago!

Clark looks flustered as he thinks of an explanation.

CLARK KENT

Um...caught in traffic?

PERRY WHITE

(resigned and calmed down)
