"I get it...we are both weird!"
☆John looks at Toby, not knowing how to respond. The overwhelming urge to just speak the truth was tremendous. John had Jamie's words ringing in his ears about being careful. Does he know Toby enough to share the truth?...maybe, maybe not.
'Well I..."
"Are you ready to order?" John suddenly looks up at the waiter, poised with his notepad and pen. He slams shut the brown file, putting it behind his back on the chair.
"Y...yes I am, you?" John looks over at Toby.
"Sure!" Toby replies, taking the menu from the centre of the table, quickly scanning the food choices before deciding. John following suit. 'Can I have the poached eggs on wholemeal toast and a tea please?" The waiter nods and jots it down. He looks over to John.
"Yeah, I'll have the same!" He replies. Putting the menu back in the centre of the table. The waiter nods and smiles and leaves the table.
John watches as Toby puts the menu back into its holder. He notices the plaster is gone from Toby's cut finger and can just see a pin prick of a mark on the tip. "Your finger's all better then?"
Toby looks at the tip, examining it again with a smile. "Yeah, it was only a tiny cut but my mum had always had it drilled into me that I need to be careful when I cut myself."
This peaks John's interest. Trying not to sound overly intrigued, he casually replies, "Oh yeah, why's that?"
"Well I have a rare blood type, AB negative, the rarest apparently and if I was to seriously get hurt, lose a lot of blood, it could be even more dangerous for me. There aren't many doners you see." Toby laughs. "I guess that's why I find things to do with blood interesting, you know!"
"Yeah it's the same with me!" John says smiling. "My condition, it's created a bit of a blood interest. I know it's weird but..." John just shrugs.
"I get it." Toby smiles. "We are both weird!"
It isn't long before their breakfast and drinks arrive and the subject moves away from the topic of blood. John talks about his mother and brother and how he never really knew his dad. How he now enjoyed bikes, cars and gaming and just really lived each day.
Toby spoke about how he lived alone and of his love of books. Claiming he was a bit of a self confessed nerd and how he loved his job. It wasn't long before the time had flown and they had been chatting for almost two hours.
"I'd better let you get on with your day!" Toby says, getting ready to go, before pulling some cash out and putting it on the table. John smiles, but feels like he doesn't really want to leave Toby's company just yet.
"Are you heading home?" John wonders as he also places his payment on the table, and picks up the document.
"Yeah, it's only few blocks away."
"Can I give you a lift?"
"What on your motorbike?" Toby says with a half laugh.
"Sure why not. It can be a thank you for your help and for not thinking I'm weird!" John smiles.
"Yeah ok then. I live only three blocks away to the right!" Toby agrees. He had never ridden on a motorbike before with his mother not allowing such a dangerous pursuit with the risk of accidents. But he was an adult now and it was only around the corner.
They both head round to John's Honda Gold wing. John flips up the seat compartment, pulling out a spare helmet, giving it to Toby then putting the brown folder in its place. He puts his own helmet on. John sees Toby struggling with the strap around the chin. "Here, let me!" He says and starts to tighten the slack fastening.
Toby watches John's face as he does so, concentrating on the clasp, trying not to pinch Toby's skin. They were pretty much in each others personal space and Toby really felt the presence of him. Toby looked at every facial feature of John's. His eyes, a deep brown, focussing on the helmet clasp. His mouth slightly open, tongue slightly brushing against his lower lip as he concentrates on what he is doing. Toby can feel it. An attraction towards him. His heart beat quickening slightly.
"There. How does that feel?" John asks and looks Toby in the eyes. He then felt it. That sixth sense he had. Only slightly. The aroma of attraction. He backs away a little. Not wanting to tempt what could lead to an ill fate for them both.
"Feels fine!" Toby replies. He then breaks his eye contact as John moves back.
John turns to mount the bike, trying to keep these new found waves of emotion in order. He glances over his shoulder. "Are you getting on?" Toby climbs on behind John. John starts up the bike, causing Toby to instantly grab hold of John's jacket. He actually was a little scared right now.
John feels the pull on his coat. Possibly against his better judgement, he fumbles behind him and grabs one of Toby's hands, wrapping it around his own waist. "You can hold on if you like!" He shouts over the noise of the engine.
Toby takes a deep breath and wraps both his arms around John's waist, lacing his own fingers together. John can feel Toby pressed against his back. It felt intense but nice, also risky. Alarm bells were going off in his head. Being this close to Toby is a dangerous game, but one that seems too tempting to ignore. He takes a deep breath, revving his bike a few times before heading out into the road.
Only a few brief minutes pass before John is turning right into Toby's street. Toby bravely lets0 go of John's waist and with one hand, pats John's left shoulder, signalling John to stop. He slows down, pulling up to the curb. John removes his helmet, looking over his shoulder at Toby, struggling to undo the clasp.
He chuckles as he watches Toby all fingers and thumbs. "You need to practice if I'm gonna take you out again!" He gets off the bike, helping Toby, eventually getting the helmet free.
"I've never been on a bike before!" Toby confesses, excitement coursing through him as he holds the helmet in his hands. "Thank you!" Toby smiles and without thinking kisses John on the cheek.
John suddenly pulls back, in shock. Toby looking equally surprised by what he did. "I...I'm sorry I don't know why I did that. I guess I just got a bit carried away, with...with the bike!" Toby's voice tailing off towards the end.
John goes bright red but smiles. "It's ok. Really, it just took me by surprise that's all." In all honesty, John was starting to feel light headed. The closeness of Toby, the vibes radiating off of him and now an unexpected kiss... He needed to go... right now, before he did something stupid. "Look, I really need to go... I'll see you!" John puts his helmet back on and quickly gets back on the bike. He speeds down the road. John needed blood and he needed it fast.
Toby watches John disappear into the distance. What the hell just happened? What did he just do? He was sure he was reading the signs right, wasn't he? Toby usually wasn't wrong about these things.
Well you won't see him again!
Toby mentally kicks himself, looking down at his hands. 'Shit!" He curses, looking down to see he still has John's spare helmet.
