"I don't know what I did but whatever it was, I'm sorry!" A voice screamed in my ear, sound echoing through the empty black room.
Another spoke up from behind me, "You took her from me! You couldn't deal with the idea of us being happy so you had to worm your way between us! And now because of you, she's in the hospital, fighting just to breathe!"
The voices in the room began to come closer, volume rising as they held a conversation I didn't understand, "It wasn't my fault you decided to go all wacko and drive into a tree! You cannot blame this all on me! We share this blame!"
"I can't believe I was ever friends with you! You ruined my life! I hate you!" The three crude words started to echo louder and louder throughout the space, sound right in my ear.
'Stop!!' I yelled, not wanting to hear them anymore. A silence fell over the room for a brief time before the sound of a heart monitor beeping filled the empty space. 'STOP!' I fell to my knees covering my ears, desperately trying to block out the noise.
I shot up, finding myself alone on the couch, sweat beading my forehead. My breathing began to slow as I looked around, taking in my surroundings. The only light in the room came from the blue television screen; the sky dark outside. Pulling the twisted blanket off of my body, I got off of the couch. I ran a shaky hand through my hair as my feet carried me into the kitchen.
Ben stood in the fridge, pajama clad, his hair messy. He turned around, a bottle of water in his hand. His face lit up a bit when he saw me. "Katherine! Hey baby, did you have a good nap?"
A yawn escaped my lips, "yeah. What time is it?"
"9:17."
"9:17?!" I gasped, "No way!"
He looked at me strangely, "Uh yeah? When did you fall asleep?"
"Around two. I've been asleep for the past seven hours??" I deadpanned. "Dang.."
"Josh mentioned that you came home early?" He glanced at me, eyebrow raised, while taking a sip of the liquid.
I nodded casting my gaze down, "Yeah.. Linsey and I got into an argument."
"What? Why?"
I sighed, "Well it's... conplicated." Of the only people who knew about Daniel, Ben wasn't one of them. It had been my biggest secret until everything came crashing down today.
He walked over to me, arms snaking around my waist, "You know I'm always here for you when you need to talk right?" His blue eyes peered into mine, an incoherent mixture of emotions swimming within them.
I nodded as my hands found his, interlacing our fingers. "Ben is there something we need to talk about?"
He shook his head, smiling, "No. I just wanted to let you know I'm here for you." I nodded once more and he pressed our lips together. Our hands disconnected, his resting on my hips and mine wrapping around his neck.
Even through his smile I could tell something was up. There was something in his eyes that told me he wasn't content. I wasn't sure what it was, but I knew I would find out eventually.
