“T-Terrence…! Um, I---” Elaine stuttered, attempting to hide her fear, but the tears began streaming down her face once more.

Terrence stood there staring at her, with a blank expression on his chiseled features, the impenetrable mask he wore.

As Alex witnessed this absurd scene unfold before him, he began to piece things together, like collecting wood for a bonfire. And it was Alex to spark the flame.

He spoke with a strong and threatening tone, clearly on the defensive for Elaine. “Leave us. I thought you could sink no lower, to pester Elaine at first, but now, to make her cry... Unforgivable.” Snarling and sharp, his last words were stated through clenched teeth. His arm snaked around Elaine’s waist protectively, causing a fatal reaction within the complexities that Terrence detained.

Terrence gave a sinister chuckle, one of which a plotting villain would bear. “Hah… I see… I’ll leave you two to your foregoing affairs.” He dropped Elaine’s bag onto the concrete, the thud discharging lethal ambience. Rigidly turning, he began his painful steps towards that dreaded metal door, the murderer who drew the blade of agony. All Elaine could manage to do during this smothering silence was stand helplessly, wedged between two men that stood like brick walls, each immovable. Without warning, Terrence stopped on his way to the exit. He turned his head ninety degrees as if to say one last goodbye, to complete a dramatic depart, but silence remained. Although his final message conveyed to Elaine, through her sight of his infamous, devious grin.

“I’ll be back.”

Terrence walked through the door.

“Hmph. What an obnoxious bastard. Good thing he finally found his place. I wouldn’t let anyone who hurt you get away innocently. I promise that I’ll protect you. I won’t ever let you go.” Alex smiled at the girl, true kindness in his blue eyes.

“Don’t… Say those types of things about him…” Elaine whispered under her breath, hiding her face.

“What is it you said?”

“Nothing…”

Wrapping his arms around her, Alex experienced genuine happiness and content as he felt Elaine lean a bit into his embrace. Comfortingly he rubbed her back, hoping the pain would go away; depart from his precious love’s body. He finally got what he was trying so hard for. He has won the acceptance of the stone cold woman, and was undoing the layers within her.

Somehow, Elaine felt some sort of false security in him, but she craved it right now.

I suppose this is fine… But what is this feeling of disappointment and remorse? I just do not want to see him again… Alex, please save me.

For now...

The dry wall cracked due to the force of Terrence’s fists pounding into it.

“GOD-DAMN IT!” His exclamation echoed through the corridor, and he hoped no one had heard it.

Running his rough hands through his hair, the distressed boy propped himself against the dusty walls.

If only… If only I’ve been faster! I could have made it there; I could have been her liberator! That asshole Knox has perfect timing, doesn’t he? Always caught in the midst of my schemes, and now… He went through with it!

Terrence thought of Alex’s dirty hands draped around Elaine. The very thought made him livid, blood boiling inside his veins.

I can’t lose my composure… If done right, I can turn this into a most advantageous opportunity.

His fists uncurled and he ignorantly pushed all his deliberations of Elaine aside.

Finally turned it up a notch, eh? He’s becoming a formidable adversary… Let the games begin.
