Chapter SIXTEEN

Tris's POV

"Mason wake up."

"Hmmm."

"Mason come on. There's someone outside."

"It's probably one of the guys. Go back to sleep."

"Fine I'll go look alone." He stopped me. "What ?" I whispered yelled .

"Stay here. It's not safe outside. Maybe it's an animal that could kill you ." He was now fully awake.

"Come with me then." I rolled my eyes.

"Stop rolling your eyes."

"Being near you makes me always want to roll my eyes."

"We're wasting time. Come on." We exited our tent and looked around . It was pitch black, and only the sound of crickets was heard.

"See there's nothing."

"I have a bad feeling Mason. Let's check the tents ." 

"You're being paranoid." We opened Anna's tent and saw her and Jacob sleeping. We went to check Bella's tent she was sleeping too with Charlie next to her.

"Let's check Mira's tent." We found her and Theo sleeping.

"See Tris there's nothing to be worried about."

"Wait we forgot Romy. Let's check up on her." We opened her tent to see it empty. Mason had a horrified expression on his face.

"Romy!" I yelled.

"Tris what's going on?" A sleepy Mira asked me.

"Where's Romy?"

"Last time I checked on her she was sleeping."

"Well she isn't anymore." By now they were all half awake and looking at me and Mason.

"Maybe she went to do her business. You know we're in the middle of a forest." Jacob said yawning.

"Yeah let's not assume the worst." Anna said.

"Not assume the worst ? Are you kidding me ? Our friend is kidnapped, half the staff is being killed. Yeah okay let's not panic." I said the last part sarcastically.

"Tris calm down."

"Calm down ? Mason do you know how hard the situation is?!"

"Let's search the tent. Maybe we could find something in there ." Bella said .

"I'll search . " I said entering her tent. I looked around. Nothing seemed suspicious. Her phone was here. Strange. Even if the phone's battery is dead she would always carry it with her. I looked next to it to find a letter.

You couldn't say goodbye to her.
Here's the next letter of my phrase: L.
This time it won't be on a dead body, but maybe next time it would be on your friend's dead body.

"So no need to worry right?!" I was now yelling at them, throwing the letter at them. I started crying hysterically, until I started seeing black.

Mason's POV

We read the letter carefully. Maybe Teis was right. If we were a bit early we could've helped Romy. I can't stop blaming myself. I should have listened to her. It was too late now to go back.

"Tris!" I heard Mira yelling. I looked to find Tris's face full of tears and she was loosing her balance. I ran a caught her. She was now unconscious. I took her to the tent and splashed some water on her face. She was still unconscious .

"What do I do?!" I asked frantically.

"Mason. First of all relax." I took a deep breath.

"I"ll bring some cologne." I nodded looking at Tris.

"The girls are freaking out too." Charlie said.

"We can't blame them, 2 of their friends were kidnapped. We still don't know if they're alive or dead already."

"I suggest you don't say that in front the girls."

"I won't." Jacob handed me the cologne. She stirred and opened her eyes slowly. She looked at me and hugged me. I hugged her back .

"Shh it's okay we'll find them." She nodded her face wet from all the tears.

"Go to sleep now." I said stroking her hair. She closed her eyes and after awhile her breathing became even indicating that she was now asleep.

Tris's POV
I opened my eyes . They hurt from how much I cried. I was in our tent but Mason was not here with me.

"Mason?!" I yelled frantically.

"I'm here." He entered the tent with a small sandwich in his hands.

"Oh thank god." I sighed in relief . I knew that if it wasn't for him being with me I would have broke . But he kept me strong. Maybe he doesn't feel anything for me but I'm grateful that he is next to me when I need him. I hope that someday he would feel something for me too and that if we stayed alive.

"There's a lake nearby if you want you could take a shower there or something. It would freshen you up."

"Yeah good idea."

"And don't worry I'll be in a place where I could hear you if you needed help just yell my name."

"Okay." I took the shampoo and the shower gel along with my toothbrush and toothpaste. I indeed am a girl that can't go without these thing anywhere .

"And you ?" I asked him.

"Me and the boys already took 'a shower' awhile ago." I nodded .

"Come on Tris we are all going." Mira said but her voice held sadness. All the girls have red eyes. We were all miserable.

"The water is cold." Anna said.

"Yeah." I shivered. "I'm done girls I'll wear my clothes."

"You can find a towel in my bag ."

"Thank you Bella." I dried my body and wore my clothes. After 10 minutes we were all dressed and went back to the boys.

"We're done." I told them.

"So are we . Let's get going." Mason said .

"Please be careful all of you . I don't want to lose anyone anymore. We stick together!" I said. We walked around a bit looking for anything that could help us , until I tripped over something hard and big . I looked down and gasped.

"Omg look here !!"

"What's wrong ?"

"Look!" I said horrified.
