Dear Diary,

Shalom. Yesterday the most frightening thing happened. Cassy, my older sister, and I were going for a walk in the forest like we so often do to clear out our heads. We knew we shouldn't leave Mrs. Simon's attic, for safety purposes, but we hadn't been out in so long. We had made a big mistake. A dark figure started approaching us. Cassy's hand stiffled my scream, but it was enough for the dark figure to hear.

"Hitler's men, the Nazis," Cassy whispered to me quietly. More men came out of the trees. I hid behind the bush, but Cassy was too big.

"Help!" I heard her scream, but I knew they had already left for the Concentration Camps with my dear big sister.

"We are Jews and we are proud of it," Mama had once said. "We won't let one evil man discourage us. He thinks he is the hawk, and we are the prey. Yet the prey may be more cunning than he anticipates. We are Jews, but we are so much more than that. We are not the dead meat he thinks of us." And for once, I agreed with Mama. First, they kidnapped Grandmother, then Daddy, and now Cassy. Enough was enough. I had had enough, and I was ready to fight back.
