I cover my mouth as I yawn. I didn't get much sleep since I had to run around and make sure Kiara buried all the pieces properly. I had to drive that woman's car out of the town. The cutting also took long. I walk into the school building.
"Good Morning, Dion!" A voice greets with a ton of enthusiasm. "Fuck off." I say. "Don't be mean." They say. I turn around and see Bonnie. She walks closer to me and stands on her tiptoes. She rubs the bags under my eyes. She's so short, it's cute. Bonnie says. "Your aunt really kept you up." She says. "Yeah." I say, my voice sounding deeper than usual. It's because of my fatigue. Bonnie cups my cheeks and I remove her hands. "We have register now." I say and we walk to class.
We enter our homeroom and the class snickers at us. "Are you two finally dating?" A girl with an ugly face asks. "No." I say honestly and go to sit at my desk. These delusional kids are so annoying. I lay on my arms and close my eyes. I doze off.
"Dion." Someone calls and shakes me gently. I sit up and see the teacher, Mrs. Garcia. "Dion, when is your brother coming back?" She asks. I sigh. "Friday." I say. Mrs. Garcia nods and smiles. "The bell rang so you should head to class. "I stand and leave the classroom.
Today something must have made everyone target me. "I heard Dion killed Derek." A voice whispers. "No way." Another more high-pitched voice whispers. "He'll never be like his brother." The students whisper. I turn my head to look at them. I glare right at them and they freeze. "Mind your business unless you want to end up like Derek." A student steps to the front. "Oh please, Dion. You can't do anything to us. You're too weak." I completely face them and ask. "Do you really want to die at such a young age?" I ask. "At least if I died, I wouldn't die the family disappointment. Everyone in the school knows your family abandoned you for being useless at everything." I want to break this guy's nose so badly. I decide to go to class. I clench my fists as he yells. "Running away from everything like you always do? You're a coward."
I enter Math class and sit by the window. The teacher hands out the test we wrote last week. I look at my mark. 99/100. I want to tear up my paper. One stupid mistake. There's no doubt my brother and Derek would have gotten 100. "Devon got the highest in class." The teacher says. I sigh. Devon is my brother. The better brother. My annoying, older twin brother.
I look to the side and Bonnie is looking at me. Her cheeks flare up and she looks away from me. I sigh. She is best friends with Devon. That's why she thinks she can be so close to me. I need to tell her off today. She's ruining my daily routine.
After school Bonnie walks up to me after avoiding me whole day. "Hey Dion. Do you want to get ice cream with us?" She asks, gesturing to her friends behind her. "No." I say. I put my hands in my pockets. "Stop bothering me. I'm not your friend." Her friends glare at me. "Don't be an asshole. She's the only one who still cares for you." Her friend, Francesca says. "Congratulations on that. I don't care about who cares for me they can all go die!" I yell the last part. Her friends get angrier than before and Bonnie being a sensitive little shit starts crying. She falls to the floor. I turn my back and walk away from the girls.
I get to my house and enter. Maybe I need sleep. Today is going bad. I lay on the couch and close my eyes. It doesn't take long before darkness consumes me.
I feel a vibration in my jeans pocket. The sudden feeling waking me up. I take the device out of my pocket. I check and it's a call. My vision is blurry, but I see a 'De'. I swipe right on the green and rub my eyes. "Hey." I say, my voice groggy. My mind assumes that it is Devon since I've only heard his name today. "Hey, Dion." The voice says. "Devon?" I ask, making sure. "No, Derek." I am instantly wide awake. "Derek?" I ask, a smile growing on my face. "Yes, Dion. I can't talk long. I'm in trouble." "What trouble?" I ask. I stand up and go down to my basement. "They're going to kill me. This group Malachite. They are blaming me for killing members of their group." "Where are you, I'll come get you." I ask and switch on the light. I walk to my table and put Derek on speaker.
"I wanted to talk to you about that. Don't look for me. I wanted to leave that stupid school because of their damned attitudes. I want a new life." Derek says. My heart aches. "Even if it means leaving me behind?" I ask. "Even if it means leaving you behind." He says. I clench my teeth. I take out my laptop and track his location. "You're not getting rid of me so easily. When I get my hands on you... I swear... "I say, gritting my teeth. "Good-bye Dion." Derek says and hangs up.
I want to throw my phone, but if it breaks all my research I haven't saved yet will disappear. I sigh and clutch my head as I place it on the edge of the table. After a while I look up. He's in Spain. I'm going to go there, but I'll need to wait until my family comes back.
