                                                                                          Chapter Eight

Nayvee pushed him away hard enough he stepped back but she didn’t do anything else. She scowled at him and turned to walk away, but he grabbed her and pulled her back to him.

“No Garrett I think that should do it,” Nayvee responded quietly. I took it as a hint.

“Fine! I’ll leave you alone for a minute then. Nayvee I’ll wait for you outside.” Garrett struggled to keep his emotions under control. The last thing he wanted was for her to think he was jealous. But wasn’t he? He walked over to the counter trying to block the rest of their conversation out of his head. In such a small store, that proved to be next to impossible.

“So like I was saying, we need some time together. What are you doing tomorrow night? I was thinking a hot tub party at your place would be awesome.”

“No, sorry. Tomorrow won’t work. Jared and Claire are going to be out of town,” Nayvee said distractedly.

“Even better. I’ll see you at say eight o’clock?”

            “No Brady, Not tomorrow.”

“Trust me Nayvee, just give me a chance and I’ll make your night so great you’ll realize  how much you missed me too. How much we’re meant to be together.” he said it with such force Garrett wanted to just turn around and knock his head off.

“Come on I’ll give you a ride home.”

“No that’s ok thanks, I rode here with Garrett and we need to be getting back to the ranch,” she replied.

Garrett unloaded their stuff onto the counter. Images of Brady holding Nayvee in his arms flashed before his eyes, and the sight of Nayvee’s smile just burned a hole in his heart. Why the hell should I care? Its not like I have any claim on her, she’s just my bosses niece. From now on that’s how I’ll think of her too. Let Brady have her! He thought, his temper fuming now..

“Will this be all for you?” the girl behind the counter asked.

“Yeah,” he grunted, “and I need to charge it to Jared’s account”. He was so deep in thought he didn’t even realize that the girl had slipped a piece of paper and a pen over to him.

“Hey cowboy, you wanna sign this paper so you can get on your way?” she asked with a flirty tone in her voice. Garrett signed the papers and took the receipt, not noticing that the girl had written her phone number on it until he had reached the door. He knew what she was up to and he wanted no part of it. He couldn’t get Nayvee out of his mind that fast, and to be honest, he liked her there.

Nayvee was standing at the door waiting for him.

“Hey, you ready to go?” she asked.

“Why don’t you just go home with Brady? You don’t need to feel pity for me I’m not afraid to drive back alone. Go spend some alone time with your boyfriend,” he spit at her. The look on her face as she recoiled away from him made him feel horrible with guilt. She looked sad and hurt for a second. Then anger took over.
