Evelyn P.O.V.
I sat in one of the booths at the far end of the cozy cafe. It seemed like a little nook and a perfect quiet spot for drawing. I pull out the red leather-bound journal from my satchel and start sketching. The red color pencil hits the paper and I continue drawing the fantasy scene I pictured before I was dragged here. Within a second, I feel myself go back to that medieval world of dragons and magic and plagues that could kill populations. It's fantastical, but it's also realistic.
"You won't believe what just happened!"
"GAH! Jimmy cricket!" I jump up with a start at the sudden outburst.
"What I would pay to just hear you say one curse word. Just one!"
I chuckle a little. It's not that I choose not to; I just happen to have a lot of varied phrases that always get a reaction out of someone, which, in the end, is the best reward one can ask for.
"So, which hand got burned?" Whenever a hot drink is carried, one of her hands will be burnt, expect for the time she got burned in the eye. It's a sad curse Sarah seems to carry.
"Right, anyway, doesn't matter, listen, the dude at the counter? Super hot and handsome. I mean-"
It would be rude to say I tuned her out because I didn't. I listened as she described the way his eyes gleamed, which I would imagine like a mossy sea, and how his hair was black as an ebony shade, and also how he has a peach stubble on his chin like some kind of fruit. I listened as my eyes drift from the drawing I was doing and the cup that held my hot chocolate.
She usually spots a guy or girl that catches her eye and I listen in, nod and smile along. It would sometimes give me a bit of heartburn, but it usually goes away after a while. It's odd since I don't usually get heartburn out of nowhere. I tried thinking of ways to stop it, such as staying away from spicy food, minimize stress, all that good stuff. Still, I feel the heartburn come one.
But, I want to show support so I smile and nod along
"-anyway, we are basically friends now."
"Wow, you should introduce me sometime." I gently stroke my pencil against the paper to better outline the shape of the roofs and walls of the tavern.
"Yeah, I should! Who knows, he might become one with our group."
I chuckle at that. "I wouldn't call two people a group."
"Maybe with three people it will finally be a group!" Her pink-tinted brown eyes gleam with excitement at the idea of creating this group.
I smile back at her. This was another thing she usually talks about after going on about the new physically attractive person she sees. Sadly things don't usually end well. Sorry Kyle, you were a pretty jerk; twas never meant to be.
"Hey, I'm going to go ask for the hottie's number!"
And so starts what I like to call, 'The Get to Know Me Show'. Great acting, lots of drama to come and future pep talks of encouragement for the sensitive high energy spirit that is Sarah.
"Oh, also get me one of those cookies too, please! Macadamia if they have it, if not chocolate chip. I'll be here if you need me for support!" I give her a thumbs-up as she gets her pink self up and walks back towards the counter.
Let the storm begin.
