Some of you may recall that a few chapters ago, the reader's birthday was celebrated with stargazing and *ahem* that.
The thing is, I had a different plan on how it was to be celebrated. So imma just show you my previous idea and you can decide which one's better.
During those few days before your birthday, you were a ball of excitement. At any random moment, you would just think about what Adam said and then hug Cypress to keep yourself from combusting.
Today was your day. You were in the middle of a good dream when all of a sudden you hear your loud-ass ringtone.
"Yellow?" you greeted the caller.
"Check outside your window," the voice said.
You did as you were told without ending the call. The first thing you noticed was a man standing outside holding up a beautifully crafted sign with the words "Happy Birthday Y/N" written in beautiful calligraphy. Then you noticed it was snowing.
"Adam, I appreciate that beautiful sign along with your presence but uh...aren't you cold?" you asked with concern.
"Nope. Not at all," he replied with assurance.
"I'll be down in a sec." You ended the call and went to your cabinet to get a jacket. You hurriedly ran downstairs, tripping in the process. Two pair of strong, warm arms caught her from falling in the snow.
"Happy birthday Beautiful," he greeted you with a grin.
'Beautiful? Oh my...' You felt your cheeks flush. You stood up awkwardly.
"Here. I got you something." Adam handed you a fancy looking box. You opened it and saw that he had given you a blue moon-shaped necklace. It was so beautiful.
"Adam, thank you so much," you said softly while admiring its beauty.
"Anything for you." You hugged him and he did the same. Your heart was warmed by his thoughtfulness. You almost didn't mind the cold.
"I'm taking you out, remember?" Adam reminded.
"Where are we going?"
"That's a surprise. How 'bout you go and get ready."
"Alright, give me five minutes." You ran inside to change into warmer clothes. The snow wasn't heavy so you wore a jacket, a pair of sweats, and your snow boots. You also decided to wear a black beanie and left.
Adam made you wear a blindfold during the entire car ride, which only added to your curiosity. You kept asking him questions like "Where are we going?" or "Are we there yet?" but he wouldn't budge. So you just waited for you both to arrive.
We pulled to a stop so you had assumed that you were here.
"Wait here," he said. "And don't remove the blindfold." I grumbled a "fine".
A minute passed and you were on the verge of removing the blindfold. You reached to grab it when Adam opened my door and said, "You can come out."
He started guiding you out the door and made you walk a few steps.
"Okay, you can see now."
You removed the blindfold and your eyes widened with surprise. The area was surrounded by yellow fairy lights and in the middle of it, there was a huge tree which had a bunch of gifts around it. Your eyes wandered to Adam who was setting up a stereo.
"Why do you have that?" you snorted.
"I bought it for today so don't make fun of me," he said sheepishly. The stereo starts playing "I Can't Help Falling In Love" and he offers his hand.
"May I have this dance?" Your face starts heating up and you say, "But I can't dance."
"Neither can I. How bout we do the old 'two steps forward, one step back' shall we?"
You were extremely nervous but his smile made you a bit more comfortable so you take his hand. He pulls you in and you start dancing.
So far so good. You haven't stepped on his foot yet. He starts twirling you around. And then he dips you. It's not even in rhythm with the song but you were so lost in the dance and yourselves that you didn't realize the music had ended.
You stay close to his chest and take in his scent.
"Thank you for this, Adam."
"Anything for the girl I love." Your heart just stopped for a moment after hearing those words. You look up at him in disbelief. Did he really just say that?
"Yep. I said it," he answered as if reading your mind. "I'm in love with you."
You start tearing up at his words. Because for so long, you've been craving the love and care you weren't given as a child. You hugged him really tight and you didn't want to let go.
"Oh god, Adam. I love you too." Tears came down your eyes. It wasn't of sadness. It was that of happiness.
Adam hugged you back and said, "Happy birthday."
Despite the cold of the winter, your heart felt warm. Full of love.
I like this one better honestly.
