"Make sure this place is spotless!" Yelled Mrs. Kaddo. Mrs. Weeden was on a trip so you had someone else taking care of you and they weren't that good at it. She wanted you to clean all day.
You and four other kids started cleaning, "It's the hard knock life," is what you kept repeating. "Wait what does the hard knock life mean?" Andrea, the youngest of the kids asked. "It means our life sucks," responded Justin the oldest of the kids. He picked up a mop and threw it at Andrea, which she caught. "Oh then yeah."
It's the hard-knock life for us It's the hard-knock life for us You started folding blankets and mopping the floor. 'Stead of treated we get tricked 'stead of kisses we get kicked it's the hard-knock life "Less singing and more cleaning!" Mrs.Kaddo yelled from the other side of the room. "And make sure the bathrooms shine!"
It's the hard-knock life for us It's the hard-knock life for us You continued cleaning. 'Stead of treated we get tricked 'stead of kisses we get kicked it's the hard-knock life
Justin grabbed Andrea by her legs and she started cleaning the floor. Two of the other kids were doing the same thing, Hezekiah grabbed Danyeli by her legs and she was cleaning the floor as well.
You went outside and started sweeping. Don't if feel like the wind is always howl'n? The others joined in and started sweeping. Don't it seem like there's never any light! Once a day, don't you wanna throw the towel in? It's easier than puttin' up a fight You and the others started to go inside but continued singing. No one's there when your dreams at night get creepy No one cares if you grow or if you shrink
You went to the kitchen seeing that there was barely any food. Empty belly life You were throwing the plates at each other hoping none of them would break. Rotten smelly life full of sorrow life no tomorrow life
Andrea was looking in the chimney and sang, Santa Claus we never see you, Hezekiah sang Santa Claus, what's that? Who's he? You all started singing, no one cares for you a smidge when you're a foster kid it's the hard-knock life
Andrea was walking down the hall mimicking Mrs. Kaddo. Make my bathroom shine but don't touch my medicine cabinet You all chuckled at her little joke.
It's the hard-knock life for us it's the hard-knock life for us 'stead of treated we get tricked 'stead of kisses we get kicked You started taking out the trash in but you invented a fun way of doing it. Someone from the top would say what it is while someone from the bottom would use the trash lid to put in the right bin.
It's the hard-knock life for us it's the hard-knock life for us No one cares for you a smidge when you're a foster kid The five of you were running around with feather dusters in your hands and laughing. It's the hard-knock life Mrs. Kaddo ran in and threw some dirty clothes at you "I said no singing and dancing!" When she walked away you all whispered.
It's the hard-knock life
