"Pierce! Are you even listening?"
I snap out of my daze and look up to a hand waving in my face. Josie scowls and tuts, "Are you listening?" I nod, "Yeah, Jo. Keep going." She gives me a look but continues anyway."First she calls me useless and shrugs me off after I offered to show her where the records she wanted were. Then she get anal for me putting the receipt in the bag. Like the I fuck? What did I do? She was being a total Karen." Josie rants, her face red with frustration. I nod absentmindedly, drawing patterns from the dust collecting on the counter.
"Maybe she had a rough day." Aaron shrugged, tending to the cashier. Josie rolls her eyes playfully, "Yeah, that's why i hate teenagers. They scare the shit outta me." She says and pulls out a vape pen. "Dude! Can you even do that on the job?" Aaron interrupts, snatching the pen away from her as she pouts. I chuckle and check the clock. Business was quite slow these days, it was abnormal in New York. My eyes wander over to the black, shiny clock mounted on the cracked wall. "When is Heather supposed to pick us up?" I ask, my eyes still glued to the clock as the wands moved ever so slightly. "In a few, I better go get my things then." Aaron replies. He retreats into the backroom while Josie and I start cleaning up close the shop.
"We're going to Pierce's?" Josie asks as we all walk down the street to the parking lot in the cold NYC weather. "Yeah, gosh it's cold." Aaron replies with a shudder in his voice. I chuckled. After a couple more walking, I spot Heather's white sedan and wave so she could see us. Her eyes light up at the sight of us and a big smile widens. She drives a little closer so we wouldn't have to walk far.
"Hey!" She says with a bright voice, the warmth of her heater soothes my shivers as soon as I get in her car. Aaron got shotgun while Josie and I settled for the back. The car ride was nothing special, we listened to a couple of songs and my apartment wasn't far from the shop at all.
As Heather pulled into my apartment's parking lot, I noticed a new guy carrying boxes out of the trunk of his car. He seemed like he was struggling. His brown, fluffy hair was all over the place as his biceps bulged. I couldn't stop staring. His bright blue eyes seemed to concentrate hard on carrying the boxes out of the trunk as another blonde man ran to help him. Then he was obscured from my view as we pulled into the basement parking.
"Seems like there's a new guy moving in." I tell my friends. "Is he cute?" Heather asks, she seemed uninterested as she focused on the road. "I don't know. Seems a little older than all of us, though."
"That's literally your type, Pierce." Aaron chimes in, "Older and hot." I blushed at his joke.
"Of course you'd know." Josie snickers, she stops and whines after being hit by me. "Uhh, no! S-shut up!" I say to her, my cheeks the color of tomatoes.
Aaron simply chuckles. I was embarrassed because Aaron and I used to date a long time ago for two years, before we decided to mutually break up because we realized we didn't want to end on bad terms. Plus, we were better friends than lovers anyways. Aaron was also a really good boyfriend, he was my first time, too.
I owned a pretty nice, lofty penthouse. The record store was merely a part-time job. It belonged to my late uncle, which is why I had to tend to it, too. Josie was jobless and still in school when she met me, so I gave her a job. Aaron just really liked records and owned a bunch of them, so working at a record store was like a dream come true. My main job was interior designing but it was a really chill job.
I was right when I assumed that the man outside moving the boxes was going to move in as the landlord greeted us when we got to my front door. Inside, Aaron collapsed on my couch. "I'm so tired. Anyone wanna smoke up?" He asks, holding up a bad of marijuana. "Me!" Josie enthusiastically says, jumping on the couch and snatching it away. I laugh, "Why not?" I sit on the floor in front of my couch. Heather lays her head on my lap and hugs a couch pillow. "Count me out." She sighs, closing her eyes to nap.
An hour later, we were laughing and something Josie had said while Heather was fast asleep on a bean bag. I wasn't as high as the other two as I could still think properly and whatnot, I just felt relaxed. But I'm sure Aaron and Josie could have passed out any second. And they did as soon as I thought that.
I sighed, grabbing a blanket and covering them with it, they were most likely sleeping over.
Heather woke up and yawned as she rubbed her eyes. "Good nap?" I ask as I fried a couple of bacon on the stove. She smells the scent of freshly cooked bacon and moans. "Smells so good." I grab a plate for her and we sit down to snack on some. We ate in mostly silence as I was still high and she was incredibly sleepy. Upon washing the dishes, I realized that my trash was full and I needed to take them out, but I needed some help.
"Heather, could you help me take out the trash?" I ask, "The lid to the garbage chute is actually really heavy and I don't think I could do it alone without making a mess."
She nods and leaves the bean bag she napped on earlier.
When we finish taking out the trash, I spot the same guy from before watering the potted plants outside if his front foor. As I got a good look at him, I realized how attractive he was. He seemed to notice us, but his eyes lingered on Heather a little longer.
"Hey! Are you my new neighbor?" I ask politely. "Yeah, it's Sebastian. Nice to meet you!" He smiles, showing his perfect pearly whites. "I'm Pierce and this is Heather." Heather smiles, shaking his hand. "I don't live here, though." She adds. Sebastian's face seems to fall a bit. His eyes wander from me to Heather.
"Oh, cool cool." He replies. I nod again politely, "Well, see you around neighbor! Tell me if you need anything, yeah?" Sebastian says to me. "And I'll see you when I see you." He says, smiling at Heather. She just forces a smile back.
