SURVIVAL AND MELISSA COMES HOME
October 24, 1978
Mary's POV
It's been three weeks since I was discharged from the hospital, being at home has been more depressing than ever. Rho hasn't been herself since her and I heard the news that Melissa was not coming home with us for a while, Rho and I were very heartbroken and still are. Every time I look at Melissa's crib it makes me depressed and makes me think "why is she not here with us?" Or "she is supposed to be laying in here, why is she not laying in here?". I just hope that our baby girl will be allowed to be discharged soon *sadly sighs*.
Mary and Rhoda have been cooped up at home for almost three or four weeks. Rhoda hasn't been her joyful self since her and Mary left the hospital, she had a lot of anger and sadness built up inside and she keeps remembering the feeling of Melissa grabbing her finger and held it tightly, that was the memory that was making her smile but hurt at the same time. "God I miss her so much" Rhoda thought as the verge of tears pricked through her eyes, Mary saw Rhoda at that moment, she went to Rhoda and sat on the couch and tried comfort her beautiful partner "oh Mare" Rhoda said as she started to sob and cuddled with her partner, "I miss her so much, I want her here with us, it just is not fair" Rhoda wailed as she buried head in Mary's arms. "I know Rho" Mary replied as she started to sob, Rhoda held Mary tightly and didn't want to let her go.
As Rhoda and Mary held each other in their arms, the phone started to ring, "I will get darling, you stay right there" Mary kissed Rhoda's forehead before she went to get the phone. She picked up the phone she could not believe it, it was the doctor.
"Ms. Richards?" The doctor spoke, "yes this is Ms. Richards" Mary replied as she was still in shock, "Ms. Richards, I just wanted to let you know that Melissa's Surgery was successful, and she is thriving with recovery" The doctor told Mary. Mary was relieved that her and Rhoda's daughter was doing very well and survived the surgery, "Wow that's amazing!, thank you very much" Mary replied as she was getting emotional with happy tears, "your very welcome Ms. Richards, and You can bring your daughter home today or tomorrow when ever works for you" the doctor said. When Mary heard that Melissa can be discharged from the hospital, she got all choked up and cried with happy tears "thank you so much, We will be on our way" Mary replied as she choked up with more tears.
She hung up the phone, and looked at Rhoda with happiness and love, "Rhoda baby Melissa can be discharged from the hospital!!!" Mary blurted out with more happy tears come down from her beautiful brown eyes. Rhoda's eyes widen as more tears came down from her eyes as well, happy ones this time, "Really!?" Rhoda spoke through her tears, she went to Mary and hugged her tightly and passionately kisses her. "I can't believe it, our baby..our beautiful baby girl is coming home!!!" Rhoda exclaimed with happiness and love as she kissed Mary once more, "thank you so much Mare, thank you so much for bringing our little one to the world" Rhoda said proudly as she kissed Mary's forehead softly, "your very welcome Rho, I love you so much" Mary replied as she sobbed with happiness. "Come on Kid, lets bring our baby girl home" Rhoda said with a smile on her face, and Mary smiled along with her.
As the day went by, the sky began to darkened and the night began to fall. Mary and Rhoda finally came home as Mary had the bundle of joy in her arms, the Doctor warned them to be careful who they held Melissa and how to feed her as she was still connected to a tube. Mary and Melissa started to skin to skin bond right away, Mary plopped down on the couch gently and continued to skin to skin bond with her beautiful baby. Rhoda gently sat down on the couch next to her partner and her newborn child, Rhoda gently rubbed Melissa's back and looked deeply at her baby girl, she couldn't ask anything more than this, "Mare, she's so beautiful, just gorgeous!" Rhoda complimented as she gently kissed Melissa's forehead, she was already in love with this little one.
As the night continues, Rhoda started to skin to skin bond with her daughter, so the baby can feel both of her mother's warmth and know that it's them. Rhoda held Melissa tightly but gently in her arms, "Mama loves you so much Melissa Faye" Rhoda whispered as she kissed crown on top of Melissa's head and smiled at her baby daughter. As Mary came out to the bathroom she saw Rhoda and Melissa bonding, she smiled at the both of the girls that were important to her in her life and always will be. "You are pretty good with Millie Rhoda" Mary complimented Rhoda on her parenting skills as she pecked Rhoda's lips and strokes Melissa's head gently with her fingers, "thanks Mare, I'm really grateful that I'm her Mama and your her Mommy" Rhoda replied with a smile as she kissed Mary back, "I'm grateful too, we are going to be the best parents for Millie and give her the best life as possible" Mary said as she kissed her beautiful baby on the forehead and kissed Rhoda's cheek.
Love is all around after all.
