"Are they fucking serious?!"

I opened an urgent email stating that due to the recent revelation of my pending criminal charges the hospital would prefer that my team not show up for the training today.

"Wow!" Mariah said in disbelief. The girls stared at me in disappointment. We weren't getting paid for the presentation. It was really a favor. We were donating tools and equipment that could potentially save thousands of lives that are lost to gun violence. We were upset because we knew that this was only the beginning. The aftermath of being portrayed as an evil mastermind was about to hurt me in all of the worst ways.

I stormed off to clear my head. I decided to call my mom to check on my son

"Mom..."

"I know baby. Zaiyr is sleeping. He doesn't know anything and is perfectly fine. He is all excited to go spend the summer in Dallas with his dad so don't  worry." My mother read my mind. Of all the pedestals I was on, those kids held me on the highest. I want this over with before he ever hears a word of it. A comfortable silence took over the phone.

"Charlie, don't let these devils skew your mind to believe that crap. The stuff they are saying is so awful."

"I know. I'm trying not to let it get to me. For the most part it doesn't. I just don't want this to affect our kids you know?"

"They won't be. I'll have this spoiled boy call you when he wakes up. Do you know I got up to go the restroom around 1 this morning and I almost had a heart attack on the toilet. That boy did something on that game and when I was wiping he scared the crap out of me screaming LET'S GO" I died laughing.

"Tell him to turn the game off at 9. He can stay up all night on that thing. Please have him call me  as soon as he wakes up. I love you guys"

"I love you too. Before you hang up, I was going to tell you to stay where you are for a few more days. You're not missing anything and The Trauma Center has been running just fine." She reassured me.

She may be on to something. I needed to unplug and unwind.

"I will." We hung up the phone.

I laid back on my couch when I heard a knock.

"IT'S OPEN" I yelled, not feeling like moving. Mariah appeared, sitting next to me.

"I had Eva cancel Tyler's flight. I told him the presentation was off and he didn't need to come. He agreed on the condition that you unblocked him."

"That's fine. Thanks sis."

"Charlie I'm so sorry. I feel like-"

"It's ok Mariah. We don't have to talk about it. It will be fine. Tell everyone that I'm staying. Also, call Travis and tell him I need to get out of the country for a bit. Tell him to make it happen. He'll know what I mean."
