(Alex's POV)

Gally loosened his grip on me.

''Why? Why didn't you let me go?'' I asked after I calmed down for a while.

''We can't risk your ass for him...''

''Is not only Thomas who's out there! There's Minho and Alby! I'm sorry but I just can't just sit around and wait for something to happen''

''We're all just keeping you safe!''

I clenched my fist feeling my knuckles turn white.

''Hey...'' Gally  put a hand in my shoulder and bent his head a little so he was staring directly at my eyes.

''Just let it go'' he pleaded grabbing my balled fist and intertwining my fingers with him.

...

(Meanwhile with Thomas)

''You should have followed the rules and stayed inside the maze'' Thomas was getting annoyed at Minho's constant negativity. He didn't want to give up and die just yet. ''You're telling me we have no chance?''

''None. Nobody has ever been caught outside the walls at night and live through it''

A constant whirring noise like knives rubbing against each other was heard and Thomas head popped up. He peered down the corridor that led deeper into the Maze. It grew louder by the second echoing through the maze. Then a series of eerie clicks joined in. Then a moan and then something that sounded like the clanking of chains.

Minho stood ''run, run like your life depends on it, because it does'' And then he turned and ran, disappearing in seconds being swallowed by the maze and darkness.

Thomas was shock by the turn of events. He thought hard about it. He couldn't just leave Alby to die. Even though he thinks the guy's a jerk. He reached down and grabbed both of Alby's arms and propped him to a sitting position against the stone wall. He was trying to think of a plan. Thomas looked up at the enormous walls covered in thick vines—desperation had finally clicked him into problem-solving mode.

Quickly, Thomas walked a few feet along the wall until he found a thick growth of ivy covering most of the stone. He reached down and grabbed one of the vines that went all the way to the ground and wrapped his hand around it. He pulled on it. It held. He went back to Alby and dragged him over to the vines. He wrapped one around Alby's torso. After several wraps, he tied the vine off. Then he tried raising Alby only a couple of feet. He was able to get it up a few inches before letting go.

But Thomas could've have sworn he saw bright flashes of lights bouncing off behind him. He refused to look back but he did, anyway. A bulbous, dark creature, with many spikes, shears, and rods stood there. The body covered in hair and slime and several mechanical arms were sticking out from here and there, each one with a different purpose.

A Griever.

...

He took off on his feet running; he rounded a corner of the Maze, then another. He fled as fast as he could. Right, then left. Down a long corridor, then right again. Left, two rights, two lefts, then another long corridor and when he was going to round up the other corner, a hand suddenly reached out and grabbed his shoulder.

''Come on!'' Minho yelled. Without thinking he just kept running following Minho. Together they ran through long corridors, taking turns after turns.
